I’ve been pretty disappointed by what Shiel has delivered so far.
He’s on the big $$$, and has failed to be consistent.
If he wants his midfield spot back, he needs to earn it like every other player needs to.

When we got him his previous highlights (see below) had him hitting the scoreboard plenty
This probably happening moreso because both GWS were a strong side and also as he wasn’t the main inside mid but just one of the group and able to be released away from stoppages etc.
He landed with us when we had Myers on his last legs and Hep got injured in 2019 & Belly offered next to nothing in comparison to how Mumford helped GWS.
It’s clear we were trying to rectify this with Dunkley (attempt) & Caldwell additions, and had Draper progressing.
Plus in Woosh’s time we weren’t a good forward half defensive team nor had decent ball movement which Rutten is now fixing.
There is no reason he can’t have a strong impact playing a mix of inside/ HFF (who push up onto ball anyway). And they had been aiming to do such anyway this year given the reduced rotations.
I have zero idea of his contract status, but I disagree with this.
GWS have too many of this type.
IMO, Hopper is better, Tom Green will be better, and Cogs won’t be traded.
Even allowing for retirements of Ward & DeBoer, they have a surplus.
I can absolutely see them trading Taranto by the end of next season.
Same here. Station Street
I think Caldwell takes Perkins spot when he returns. He has done ok as a junior but only really got his chance cause Shiel and Caldwell got injured…
Caldwell will most likely be forced to come back through the VFL with a game or two initially.
I know Darce is one of the clearance leaders in the last 4 games, but so was Dylan Shiel in the first 2 games.
Why does it have to be “either” / “or” ? Why not in part rotation, part overlap?
As a HFF/wing?
I don’t agree. If Caldwell comes in, he’s coming in to play mid.
But as you said he is behind
Parish
McGrath
Merrett
Wings - Langford/Cox
B
Shiel
Caldwell
Stringer
Wings Ham/McGrath
so Caldwell would be in the second rotation and probably starting forward/bench.
Ham and Cox improving as good options on the wings makes it tough as well to fit mids in.
Caldwell is one of the few inside mids we have hit that can actually get the ball away effectively whilst under physical heat. And he tackles. He’s playing for sure in the main mid rotations.
IF everyone is fit (rarity) someone perhaps misses out, it’d prob be Ham.
Unless two of our forward 7 are rotated into midfield. Probably achievable if only play 2 talls + Stringer setup.
I think the shoulder injury, whilst very bad luck for Josh, will probably help us get him next year unless he recovers soon enough to play a vital part in their finals campaign.
I think they mean spinning Snelling like a football in his hands.
doesn’t have to be like for like, magnets move
I just don’t see it. They’re flying he still has another year on his contract. They’re a pack of ■■■■■ anyway. Why would they lower they’re price to help us out when the have seen how well they all work together.
This is completely putting aside the fact that Dunkley is playing more mid and they’re on a much closer trajectory to a flag than we are. Why would he want to leave. Other than the aforementioned ■■■■ status.
Sheil for Langford?
Sure - that’s actually the point I’m making - but that has repercussions
You put Caldwell in, and it means Zerrett or McGrath or someone else drops down.
I mean, I get it, we all want to see Parish move back to the HFF, but I’m starting to think his form almost means he should stay in midfield.
. Why would he want to leave
If we keep playing exciting football why not? Why did he want to leave last year? Also, his brother is in our VFL side.
Reasons it seems wanted to leave
Has enough of that changed now for him to want to stay now? The contract wouldn’t have
Lure of being closer to a flag the added aspect.

Genuine rofl
With Parish,Merret,McGrath in the middle doing the grunt work Shiel could become really damaging on the outside now
He can take Hams spot. Shiel played his best at the Giants when he had Cogs,Kelly,Ward feeding him the ball on the outside
Apologies for being off topic, but Dylan just got engaged. Congratulations!
