A little crispy one Garry - The footy media thread

Hall’s media days were numbered before this. He adds little. Can’t see him getting another gig. The only reason he was on last night was as a fill in.

PC culture and it’s hypocrisy is out of control. You can thank social media for that.

Yeah sure it crossed the line a little, so what? Was it stated with malice?
How about people grow a backbone like previous generations had. The insulted listeners have the power to tune in elsewhere.

Stop treating adults like undisciplined children, and screw your groupthink agenda.

I too am intrigued by Carey’s reputational rehabilitation. He shouldn’t be anywhere near his current position in life given his record but here he is.

The WA media has been slowly championing the re-intergration of fallen West Coast players back into the mainstream. Included in this is a bloke who deprived a group of people of their liberty and threatened to set them on fire among other things.

Shouldn’t be surprised as the same media discuss C Mainwaring in glowing terms when ever they get the chance whilst neglecting to mention how his lifestyle led to his premature demise.

The lesson here is if you can kick a football, you can pretty much get away with most things.

The worst take.

I agree. He never looked comfortable doing interviews and his insights were limited at best.

If you really want to hear it, https://instaud.io/2nai

Monanga was just as bad imo. His wife should be furious. How does footy talk descend into that?

Sums up dribble m, loaded with neanderthals.

Counterpoint: he’s a good footy bloke

Not so sure.

Can’t say Hall’s conversation wouldn’t have been sanctioned in days gone by, either. Doug Mulray famously got pulled mid program by K Packer for over stepping the mark. Reckon there’s always been a line.

Gary Pert and Mike Fitzpatrick have been/are associated with the station. You seem surprised?

Montagna will be spending the next few nights at a hotel after that.

Both Montagne and Hall should be ashamed of themselves. That talk is quite a few slabs in on a buck’s weekend bender kinda talk. MMM should also be admonished for allowing it to air. That’s what the 7 second delay button is for.

Fair enuff.

Books used to be banned outright in the 70s & 80s if they were too bawdy.

I haven’t heard the audio. I haven’t read about it anywhere except some comments on Twitter. Frankly I don’t want to because my blood will boil.

2 weeks ago, a women was raped and killed walking home from a gig in Carlton.
The Melbourne community have been driving conversation, discussions and arguments about toxic masculine entitlement for the last 2 weeks.

Many men are arguing that this is a freak occurance and only a looney, sicko or monster would commit such a crime. Whether you believe this opinion or not, you cannot deny jokes about rape (especially in the public realm) reinforces the behaviour of people who think following a women home and raping her is perfectly acceptable.

These blokes on Triple M, living in their inner-city high rises, have got absolutely no concept of cultural issues in their city if they think making jokes about this issue isn’t going to cause a public frenzy.

Maybe you don’t say that stuff on radio, but that’s your standard Friday night ■■■■ talk banter after 12 cans. It was that bad, it was good. LOL

Get farked.

Making stupid jokes like this has nothing to do with an evil piece of ■■■■ deciding to murder and rape a person at random.

It wasn’t even B Grade movie bad type good. It was completely inappropriate even for the backyard bbq, drunk or not, and definitely inappropriate for an all age broadcast on the radio.

I’m not arguing this bullshit.
It is a fact. It is a cultural fact. It’s been back up by research supported by White Ribbon and the University of Wollongong, that toxic male culture plays a huge part in the rates of violence against women.

You can argue your opinion all you like. But it’s only an opinion.

It didn’t just cross the line a little, it flew way, way waaaaay over it and into a different stratosphere.

Radio comments are heard by all ages and the communication specialists need to be mindful of that.

It’s supposed to be a footy topic yet it descended into a perversion better left unsaid.
