We should of kept pick 37. Let's all sit back on our recliner rockers and watch with interest as to how the career of the prospect at #37 pans out. Cooney has a name and a profile that can seemingly appease the masses, but he has fallen so far from his Brownlow winning days through no fault of his own that his beloved Doggies can cast him aside without fanfare. The cynic in me suggests that we have selected him more as a PR exercise, rather than draft the best player available.
The Bulldogs thought so much of pick #37 they traded it almost immediately for someone unknown player & pick #39 from the Swans.
Judging by the way teams were quite happy to trade for picks up to Pick #25 I'm guesstimating the draft falls away quite significantly late 20's onwards. The Top 4 or so look set. Which means picks #5 to #20 or so a re quite even with Moore & Heeney taken.
The way I see it we're getting Pendlebury next year, then Deledio, then Bartel, then Marc Murphy....
Concerned that Lake will be past it when we get him, and don't want Bryce Gibbs or Jack Watts at any price!
Cooney himself said his knees have been fine last few years, blown out of proportion. Only missed games this year due to a hammy.
I have high hopes he'll be a very very valuable addition to our side.
You know what, I'm actually reasonably excited to see Cooney run around for us the next couple of years.
And I genuinely think we're a flag chance in that time. Our back end is looking good, midfield (Zerrett! Watson! Goddard! Cooney! Zaharakis! Stanton! Heppell! Myers!) could be awesome, forward line can be very good if Carlisle and Daniher keep improving the way we hope they will (talent is definitely there). The only question mark is the ruck division. A lot relies on Belly being fit and Giles giving good support.
We may have brought in a few older guys, but we've brought in some VERY good older guys. Cooney is no Priddis, Woewodin or LIberatore, he deserved his Brownlow win.
Getting Cooney is a massive win for our club , counteracts the low of act of Ryder leaving , Brownlow medallist wants to come to our club and respects Hird and wants to play for him. Dodoro genius !! And he hasn't even played a game for us yet !
In his interview he said he was going to the club tomorrow to do some training? Since he has come across does that entail just starting our fitness program as I’m sure it is different to the Dogs?
But it was my understanding that the players were on holidays right now? So is he just a dedicated and professional player who just works hard and strives to improve at every opportunity, even in the off-season?
I’m sure it has to do with getting used to the new facilities and training regime but just thought I would ask.

If you'd just come from a doghouse to shangri la,.. wouldn't you want to just be there?
It doesn't surprise me at all, I imagine he's stoked to be at a decent club with decent facilities & spirit.

It would be like he IS on holiday now he's there.
I think he was just glad to be going somewhere that doesn't smell of dog ■■■■.
