Adrian Dodoro - Flankers into Mids since 2000 (Part 2)

That part is quite possible, if we had been serious about trading him, then we might have been able to get a better deal.

We would have had pick 4 in 2020 (ended up being McDonald) + whatever pick we got in in 2019.

Much better than the pick 9/10 compo alone we got in 2020.

Worth mentioning that he farked up the Orazio trade too. could have probably got a 1st rounder for him had we let him go the year before we actually traded him. it was well known that he was going to ask to go home. there was alot of interest around him and Jackets refused to let him go. next season, he was absolutely useless on field and continued to get re-injured. it tanked his value and we were probably lucky to end up with a 2nd rounder that we used in the caldwell trade.

Port were trying to give us SPP but we were chasing Wines as part of that attempt

I doubt would have got a first off them

And it didn’t matter anyway …

Raz (contracted) actually decided to stay himself IIRC, and it ■■■■■■ Port off

maybe so. i do remember one reporter was absolutely adamant that he was leaving for port. was extremely embarrassed when it didn’t happen. then it happened a year later, even though that article said that port had ruled it out.

It was that simple. Carlton would have given them pick 8 for Papley. They gave us Pick 8 for Saad.

I thought it was clear that Sydney’s view was they’d only trade Papley if they were able to get Daniher. Us playing hardball on Daniher prevented the trades going through

That’s the media consumption and narrative.

Sydney never wanted :snake: and never wanted to let Papley go. Just as much as we didn’t want to let :snake: go.

The Daniher trade was the one trade where (in hindsight) we really should have made the deal, and didn’t, and it hurt us. Cost us an extra first, and a pretty early one at that. A huge trade like that would’ve gotten pretty political, pretty quickly- would love to know who was voting in which direction.

We ended up with a 2nd & 3rd for Raz. Perhaps a year earlier the 2nd rounder would’ve been pick 22 instead of 29 - I can wear that.

Curious if you legit know this, or just opinion?

Certainly the media line in this instance makes sense (given what eventuated).

Reports in the papers early that quickly disappeared once :snake: came out as wanting to leave. Previously this was not something the recruiters had spent time on nor considered. One person worked on it from a coffee club discussion as we all found out. Also Sydney made it clear they did not want Papley to go, they were very open about that. I don’t believe they were serious about trading him for :snake:.

Correct, but people saying they didn’t have pick 8 is just semantics.

There was an article however where Dodoro suggested that Sydney never offered those picks.

Yes I think the eventual story was an offer of 2019 pick 9 and their 2020 first.
No pick 5, as the Papley deal was contingent on c**ton coughing up.

So we could’ve had 2019 pick 9 and 2020 pick 4, rather than 2020 pick 9
For whatever hindsight is worth, we lost that one.

dodoro literally confirmed the offer was two first round picks for daniher, one being pick 9

the papley trade hinged on daniher coming across, everyone knows that. of course it did. Sydney would have been prepared to let papley go if they got daniher, but we refused the offer.

either that, or dodoro is a liar.

Carlton thought pick 9 for Papley was overs and wanted a second in return

We thought 9 and a future first for Daniher and a pick going back to swans wasn’t enough

Sydney didn’t want to lose Papley at all and the Daniher plan was orchestrated by Harley

It was a Mexican standoff and no club wanted to genuinely engage in negotiations. The idea that Dodoro held up the whole thing is ridiculous

I thought the story was they never offered 5 and 9.

Carlton was trying to split 9 to get Papley & Martin

They never wanted to give 9 to Swans directly

As such the notion we were going to get 9 and future 1st wasn’t realistic

And Swans weren’t giving up their own higher 1st

We also wanted a player which Swans weren’t entertaining

….

Hindsight, Blues should have handed 9 over for Papley … and they got Martin PSD

correct, it was 9 and a future first

Sure but we eventually had an offer. Which we knocked back.

Which was better than we ended up with for him.

yeah and hindsight says we should’ve taken the deal, but we didn’t so here we are
