Yes, let’s get Liam Henry the wingman to become our small forward.
There are older players, who will jump at the opportunity. Especially if they are also offered part time development coaching roles aswell.
There’s also lots of opportunities to be looking at players at top 4 clubs, who aren’t getting opportunities…… and killing it in the VFL/SANFL.
It’s more important that we find these ultra competitors from other clubs, rather than an 18 year olds from the 3rd/4th round.
Robert Shaw’s credibility is in the bin due to his blind love of McGrath which has left us with one of the worst pick 1’s in the history of the AFL.
Agree. He can ■■■■ off too. We need to stop listening to past players and staff.
No. No. No. Nope. Just no.
That’s the Head recruiters fault. You cannot blame a scout for the job of a Head recruiter.
This was the no. 1 pick. Almost everyone in the country had watched McGrath or McCluggage live.
And we’re led to believe that it was Rob Shaw that picked McGrath for us. Not Dodoro or Forster-Knight.
Well f*ck me. Sack Dodoro, if he is going purely off the word of one scout.
Is your SHIFT key for capitals broken??

I’ve studied a lot about group psychology in my job.
It’s actually easier to start a new club from scratch, than to change the bad culture of an old club.
I’d much prefer to be Tasmania, than Essendon tbh. And I’m not surprised that GWS overtook us quickly.
If we are going to change the culture, we have to make desperate measures. And that is to remove the people who are deliberately disobeying the standards that has been set. It doesn’t matter who you are.
You also need to overwhelm the previous culture, with the opposite types of people. We must bring in 10+ players who are ultra professionals and hard hitting competitors.
The other thing is, that poor behaviours and negative talk needs to be punished on the spot. No exceptions.
There will be 12 months of push back from players (and administrators) who won’t like the change and will sook it up…… but this is a long term project that needs to happen.
You’re also putting at risk a major part of what has built the club up to this point in time.
We’ve gone through an upheaval last pre-season and barely given it a chance to evolve.
By throwing everything out and starting again, you risk finding a new low.
I agree with what you say. It is easier to start fresh and new. Because you don’t have a reference point. But it does come with a lot of downside risk. Risk that may take a long time to recover from. And yes, I do know we’ve been waiting 20 years…
I have always been of the opinion that in order to create a particular culture, you hire and fire people to suit that culture. You prioritise it. But it’s usually clouded by costs and where the person’s holding spot is in the company. A companies purpose is to be sustainable financially. Without that, there is no chance of it ever being successful. That is always the priority and where the biggest risk comes from.
I do agree the list needs to evolve. And you have to make all players (old and new) work hard for their opportunities. But that has to be done across time.
I do also agree that the football department needs to evolve as well.
I don’t support the ripping off of the bandaid approach though and starting again. At least not yet. We did that last pre-season. We’ve set a base for performance this year. Good or bad. From here on, it’s more about setting targets and trying to improve every department. This takes time to evolve though. And I hate to say it, but it isn’t linear (gee, we’ll hate if that’s mentioned) and is more likely to fail than succeed. We are in a highly competitive environment and sport. Where winning isn’t inevitable.

poor behaviours and negative talk needs to be punished on the spot. No exceptions.
Remember the GWS rule about no hands on knees after running? It’s actually got some evidence as being a good thing to do for recovery, but as body language it looks like you’re beaten. For them it was more important to focus on the message that the players communicate to each other than it was to get a minor advantage in recovery from a sprint effort.

Is your SHIFT key for capitals broken??
yeah

I’d go bottom 5 somewhere- there have been a few duds over the years.
Banik and Lounder were shockers for Richmond.
Agree. Shaw still thinks it’s the 90’s. Just like his martyr Sheedy, they have zero feel for the modern game.
How!!! HOW is this bloke safe again??
Praying CW is wrong AF
Also people saying he must have dirt on the club, it sounds like a trauma bond with a narrcacist at this point. If hes actually ever threatened the club with releasing bad info then they shoulda sacked him on the spot and dealt with it ages ago, then by now everyone woulda gotten over it. The club is spineless.

Statistical v emotional
McGrath just needs to increase his tackle count. His kicking and handball numbers are excellent given where the ball has been the back half of 2023
I find it amazing that we will sack someone after 1 day for being a member of a church, but this guy can go 25 years without forming a decent list and be under no pressure!
We all go to the church of Dodorontology.

McGrath just needs to increase his tackle count.
He needs to work waaaay harder and stop letting his man run back through the midfield without chasing, only to watch him get involved in the play to score a goal.
He’s lazy defensively, albeit not on his own.
…‘Statistical’
The guy butchers the footy with every kick he has. His disposal is abysmal and you want him to get more of the footy.
Maybe we can sign more players like McGrath next season and win the Champion Data Statstical Premiership…
