Adrian Dodoro - Flankers into Mids since 2000 (Part 2)

True, but the only thing that most people have to go on is anecdotes and where our club is currently at…and it doesn’t paint a good picture (especially for Dodoro).

Precisely this.

Yep I agree. And the new regime made a few bad decisions too. Just have to hope they have learnt from them.

Yea there’s definitely a bit of Hotel California going on with old Dods.

I dont have a problem with people thinking Dodoro should go… its not surprising his position is being questioned. What I dont like is where some posters are going with it. Personal abuse and invented motives are sickening.

People have invested huge amounts into this club…both emotionally and financially. Fans/members don’t owe people like Dodoro anything. He is a servant of the club and the club is bigger than the staff and players. Also the club wouldn’t exist without its fans/members. Dodoro’s job wouldn’t exist without the support.

So I’m not surprised by the reactions and people are entitled to their opinions.

That’s it - when it’s rational argument that’s fine.

It’s just when it gets personal like with the worsfold stuff, or 29 y.o. fat officeworks copy centre employee with a greasy glove as the nearest thing to a girlfriend who’s grandfather did favours for hawthorn people behind bushes outside glenferrie with an axe needing grinding, that’s when its not on.

This type of thing.

It’s disgraceful.

You want me sooo bad. You can feel it.

Writing was on the wall way before that ■■■■ stain decided to chime in.

Dodoro hasnt been the worst list manager ever but he’s far from the guru that the media and his disciples make him out to be.

Loyal club servant who was gifted a key role under Sheedy for ■■■■■ knows what reason but his time is up. Thanks but now step off.

That’s not really a ‘gotcha’. The two scenarios are not at all similar.

It is not necessary to be a recruiting expert to evaluate the performance of our recruiting department.

The results are there to see and It’s plainly obvious that our recruiting has underperformed over a considerable amount of time, just like other areas of our club.

The difference is there has been turnover in these other areas, whereas recruiting is a protected species and has been shielded from blame yet again.

Very rude.

One thought on him answering into CEO maybe to give Vozzo a direct view of his work, performance etc. to make a decision, rather then Mahoney having to feedback and becoming a personality thing as well alleviating the tension in the short term …here’s hoping anyway!!

That said the information coming out over the past few months is reflecting what’s been said on here for years that something is seriously wrong with this football club and has not been run professionally and dominated politically for years and still is.

Its a massive concern that something as important as match selection is impacted by people with outside views ie we like this player so pick him as well. I do not see any reason for a list manager to be in match committee - the coaching staff shouldn’t need his advice given they have been at least working with any player for multiple sessions over at least 3 months. This is a fundamental part of the coaching teams job, if they cant make decisions themselves given its their gameplan they are incompetent.

Its time to cut the old ties that provide an umbilical cord that allows some coteries too much power. No employee should be in role protected by their relationship with outside influence. it may cause some supporters to threaten to try and tip the change makers out but this is even more reason to remove this influence, even if it means some impacts to financial support.

Rant over — sorry :grinning:

That financial support you speak of is more substantial than most on here would realise. The number of times X would often refer to our “high net worth” individuals would suggest the life blood of the club would may well depend on significant contributions from our wealthy and powerful benefactors.

Wouldn’t be a stretch to even suggest without these individuals there’s no way we would have come out of the saga as well we have even despite the lack of on-field success.

In fairness, I don’t think people were directing any negativity towards Merv. It was more at the club for what appears (from the outside at least) like an abandonment of a process to find the best available, again

I don’t think there would be a single person on here who doesn’t feel sympathy for what Merv has been through. But at the end of the day, the club is not a charity and has to prioritize its own interests above all else.

Having said that, some of dodo’s better picks were during the Merv years, so I guess there’s that. Still, I would love for that club to invest heavily in funding the best available people in recruiting, even if it means trying to poach one from another club on very big $$.

I have no doubt its significant and don’t underestimate it.

But this is the problem with Essendon to the core - we are held to ransom by this support. We will never move forward until this support doesn’t come with conditions or a requirement of influence.

And no I’m not naïve enough to expect them to fork out significant amounts of money without getting something back.

Access to players, board members c suite is going to come of course, but there should not be the threat of board members losing support, or employees fearing for their jobs because they don’t bend over to people who want to have a power trip at the club…and don’t tell them that doesn’t happen

Dodoro is now Vozzo’s problem.

My betting is that he will be gone in a few months.

There’s no way Essendon would’ve survived the saga without the high net worth supporters. They put in tens of millions. TBH, they have been relying on their contributions since they started fundraising for The Hangar, and were chasing big donations as late as 2019 for the latest upgrades there. The Club couldn’t and can’t function without them. Especially given the debt it held only a few years ago. Very few of them are ‘known’ too.
