AFL - Terrible Ideas, Too Many Ideas, No Idea…

The first 20 odd pages of the coroners findings are horrible. Shane was really suffering prior to his death.

I think the main thing to take from the coroners findings are:

(1) The AFL may introduce contact training limits pending whether this is supported by medical evidence.

(2) The AFL are trialling fit-for-purpose helmets. They aren’t willing to commit to making them mandatory, but do state that it’s an option if supported by trial data.

(3) The incident between two Port Adelaide players did serve a wake-up call for the AFL. It seems that the way game-day concussions (and head knocks) are managed will become collaborative between club doctors and independent experts. Suggested that where opinions differ, independent experts get final say.
