AFL - Terrible Ideas, Too Many Ideas, No Idea…

Rationale was that one arm could be used to break the fall, but there may not have been a lot of science to suggest that it served to protect the head.? May not be a lot of science behind any of the AFL rules about concussion.

What’s the issue? We can just call them ■■■■■.

Congratulations, you hopeless dbags

No final.
No semi final.
Quarter final in Melbourne to be played at AAMI Park.

If Australia make the final it will be one of the biggest sporting events ever to be held in this country (and even if they don’t, it will still be pretty damn big). And it won’t be anywhere near Melbourne because the MCC is the AFL’s b/tch.

I actually am on the MCG and AFL’s side here. The demands from FIFA are absolute garbage and not needed

Not sure why you’re laying blame with the MCC when it reads like the AFL had the final say. But as @Aceman said the requirement from FIFA for a clean stadium for 3 weeks is ridiculous and hugely unnecessary. The MCG and Marvel are capable of switching codes overnight.

There is no reason they couldn’t work it so the AFL played a Thursday night game one week and then vacated the ground. The following Friday the World Cup semi final could be played and then the AFL could be back at the G by the Sunday.

My reference to the MCC was a criticism of the AFL. The AFL walk all over the MCC when it comes to contractual arrangements (I know, I’ve seen some of them). If the MCC didn’t agree to such a restrictive contract with the AFL then things could have been sifferent

Of course they do, they provide most of their income.

About time someone said something about this crap. Imagine our coach making these statements after we had just won a game? Nope, it would just be “learnings”.

"Four-time premiership coach Alastair Clarkson feels the same frustration many fans do at the current congested state of the game and has called on the AFL to act.

"We teach our players to tackle and if a player doesn’t dispose of the ball correctly then the rule book says to blow the whistle and play a free kick.

"At the minute the seagulls [players] are all going after the chip but if there’s incorrect disposal [free kicks], you watch the seagulls spread.

"But the seagulls aren’t spreading out any more because we’re just not paying the free kick, yet we’ll do one for tiggy-touchwood ruck or marking infringement.

"But they won’t pay the ones for holding the ball.

“It’s frustrating.”

I agree the game is horrid but Clarko is the one who pioneered most of these borefests we see now. His style was all about playing ugly football

True however he is not incorrect about the umpires playing HTB frees, they refuse to do so unless the player has “dragged the ball under”, otherwise they say it has been knocked out, even when it clearly hasn’t.

Must be impacting on his latest game plan

Cute but he is still correct, we have all being saying it in here.

Saw this from Rob Harding (long time AFL assistant & at EFC for a few years)

Facts, schmacts.
