Good to see it trending downwards, but 14 tackles for every HTB decision still seems like a lot
How are GC going to play at GMHBA if they have to quarantine 14 days upon returning to GC? Can’t see them okaying this.
send all Vic clubs interstate for 6 week hubs or relocate the comp to the NT
I’ll add some info…
At a point in the last decade, what constituted a tackle stat changed.
Before that time, any tackle was labelled as a tackle.
After that, if a player is tackled but handballs it to a teammate, it’s not counted as a tackle.
Wonder if that was between 2014 and 2015?
16 a side, give some space on the field to actually move the ball, save money on players required per club, better more talented players only on the field and make it harder for teams to zone and team defence. Plus make it easier to field teams at junior level.
Nope
Is this info, or something you made up?
(
- I’ve never heard an ineffective tackle being counted as a tackle
- the few older (albeit 2nd hand) sources I can find don’t agree with you
- and it would not make sense for that to change in a particular year, and the numbers only drop by 1.5 percent or so
)
It’s something I made up…
I never said they kept count of an ‘ineffective’ tackle.
It came from champion data as they decided to stop counting all tackles and only the ones that either caused a ball up or a possession to the opposition.
Cannot recall when it occurred but it looks like it happened before 2010.
Reason I know is because it affected dream team and supercoach scores.
It’s interesting that between 2011 and 2012 it dropped. 2012 was when GWS came in so there were more games that year. You’d think it would go up with more games being played.
In my opinion the only way to get the game back to a more attacking free flowing game is to change the mindset of the coaches. I don’t see any rule changes that will do that.
I reckon the best hope is to have bonus points for scoring over X points in a match. I’m just not sure what X should be. Maybe 90 (assuming we’re back to 20 min qtrs next year). So 4 points for a win and 1 point to each team that reaches 90
i don’t mind that
100 points would be better.
Change the ladder from being percentage to total score.
That actually is what you’re saying.
It’s only counted as a tackle if it stops the ball, strips the ball loose, gets a HTB free or largely effects the disposal.
As far as I can see, that’s never changed.
Is/was it a change to the definition of “effecting the disposal” maybe?
Unlikely to be fair, especially in the absence of uniform grounds and a 34 round season.
Easily manipulated.
Unfair if you’re down by a point compared to another team but have shut down the opposition much better.
Agree on 100 as a bonus point mark.
We’ve got to get that mindset back to an attacking one. ■■■■■■■ thanks heaps Roos and ROSS THE BOSS
Once the team has kicked a hundred points, every subsequent goal is a super goal.
Well that sucks, we’ll never earn one.
Maybe EFC could lobby for points being awarded for set shots at goal that go OOF.
I’m not going to get into a long drawn out argument…
Before that time it was not counted separately as an ineffective tackle in a separate column. It was counted as a tackle.
After that time it was no longer counted as a tackle and there was no column counting ineffective tackles.
too late
I’m not having a go, or trying to argue - I’m interested in if this is truly the case or not.
Can you find a source that backs you up on this?
