Sweeping under the rug press conference imminent

AFL hiding behind the doctors curtain on illicit drugs policy.

Dillon: Doctor patient confidentiality is most important.

So any player whose tests come back from Dorevitch posivive is referred to the club doctor. Sim sala bim, problem disappears

Press conference littered with “private medical information” references, a vague reference to policy review and improvement (despite it working well), unable to comment on Joel Smith and a circle jerk around how well they’re running the game with player welfare paramount.

Fucken Grub, Dillon.

So Dillon the new CEO has to step out on behalf of Richard Mr invisible Goyder, who is specifically named in the report. That’s a bit weird.

I hate the AFL but isn’t what they are doing the right thing? Test so players don’t register positive tests on match day. Drug use is mainstream these days for people of afl players age. You are never going to stop afl players from taking drugs.

i mean in terms of detecting use or whatever, sure

but in terms of subverting their own illicit drugs policy, especially when they refuse to align to every other sport’s, then that’s a bit of a problem

i recall some other club had some issue a while ago that was a bit like this

I’d argue they are not, in fact they are enabling the behaviour by protecting the players from the natural negative consequences of their drug use

And really, they couldn’t give a ■■■■ about the welfare of the players, it’s about protecting the brand and limiting the chances of players being outed on a 3 strike

Are we ■■■■ because the players don’t do enough coke?

Simple answer . If this has occurred give jobe his Brownlow back. Apologize to our club and admit it was a sham.

What a joke . 34 blokes suspended with no positive test.

AFL wide cover up for everyone else

I knew those trips to Ibiza were in the best interest of the club.

Haha. Wilkie’s ex, Simone Wilkie, is an AFL Commissioner ( appointed in 2016)

Stoked to hear that Sonny Morey has been named the AFL’s 2024 Sir Doug Nicholls Round honouree and will receive recognition at the Dreamtime clash this year.
Sonny is an absolute legend in SA and has given amazing service to football at many levels in the state and is an absolute role model to all people. Had a bit to do with him when he was involved in my local league and he is legitimately a ripping, humble bloke who was only ever too willing to chat and pass on his knowledge of the game and was one that people would seek guidance from. It’s a huge honour and I’m sure he would be pretty chuffed and I wasn’t going to attend the game but I might make the trip over now and witness it firsthand

The problem is, with gambling now involved, the false excuses being used to explain a player’s withdrawal.

Let’s say a star player has cocaine detected in his system mid-week.

They withdraw him from the game with some excuse like “hamstring tightness”.

Next week, no drugs in his system and he is good to go, fully fit.

BUT you as a punter, are under the assumption that there maybe questions about the player’s fitness and how their hamstring might cope.

The star player might have a betting over/under of 25.5 disposals, and you take the under because of the question of their fitness.

However, because the player was actually fully fit, they have a good day out, and rack up 35 disposals.

You as a punter lost, because the league (through its clubs) - which takes a share of gambling revenue - fed you false information.

Nothing to see here. It’s all done for the players benefit and protection. The AFL are actually the good guys who like to keep everyone’s secrets. So get farked the lot of ya!

Edit.
Just heard that 100+ players are involved. How do we feel if there’s a couple of bombers in that group?

The only way we are going to become a competitive team is if we learn to cheat as well as everyone else.

I’d be happy that they are smart enough to use this system to avoid risking long suspensions.

not really

the clubs are under no regulatory obligation at all to report why players aren’t playing. they only do it out of fan and media interest/expectation

I have little sympathy for gambling having seen it’s effects up close. Stop gambling ads or gambling companies sponsoring.

The question isn’t about obligation to report, but whether FALSE information was put out by the AFL via its clubs.
