I think the theatre goer element actually helps coz they don’t care about the result as much, they’re just there for the event. Like people that go to the horse racing.
The big challenge for the swans is turning their massive percentage of theatre goer fans into genuine rusted on ones, that watch them on tv, buy all the merchandise, get their kids to play footy, follow them online etc etc
I have a mate in Sydney who is a SCG member, so I usually head up to Sydney once a year to watch Essendon be flogged by the Swans. Like death and taxes.
Given that the Swans have been in Sydney 40 or so years, I never ceased to be amazed that their match day supporters mostly still have NFI about any aspect of the game.
Not sure if people are interested in this, but Goyder is a cockroach, you just can’t get rid of the bloke. Qantas finally did, but Woodside still haven’t, every board he chairs the shareholders want him gone.
Surely he’s embarrassed seeing the hours and effort that v’landy’s over at the nrl puts in, when he himself can’t even be bothered showing up to grand finals previously.
A change in chairman to someone with some ambition and profile might actually help the bland and almost mechanical Dillon.
