AFLW 2020 - cancelled, with no winner

And couple all this with the fact that women run at 90% of the speed of men, but kick the ball at 66% of men. No wonder the zones are set before the ball gets down.

Are there any indigenous AFLW players?

Yes. Including at least one who played for our VFLW team.

Feel bad for the Bullies here, … had a real crack most of the Night, but just falling short fwd.

No shortage of effort though, … that’s for sure.

I watched the final quarter last night, looked no different to a Sydney Swans game, very very scrappy which brought the spectacle down.

First quarter Scum v Filth in perfect conditions: a fair chunk of long/precise kicking, some great marking and tackling, certainly entertaining.

(The umpiring is sadly AFLM standard; some real soft rubbish thrown in there. The two frees that provided goals to the Pies were there, though.)

Vescio is cooked.

There was some quality football played in that game, especially the first half. Freo played pretty well too. This competition is improving rapidly.

That comment by the Collingwood bird saying that Tayla Harris is useless if you beat her in the air is the best thing I’ve heard in a while. Love it!!
Imagine how spicy the men’s comp would be if they were as cutting and honest as this. It’d be awesome!!

Is Taylor Harris any good or was it the online trolls who gave her the unnecessary airtime? The times over seems her play she seems to struggle more than most. Suppose if she is just a forward it certainly won’t help her cause.

I thought the Collingwood v Carlton game was a good look into the future of AFLW. Good skills, good lateral movement and the great thing about women’s footy they are hard at it. Considering how young the comp is I think they are doing great. Bigger numbers, better coaching and better pathways will all help.

After conceding that mark and goal early, Livingstone absolutely torched Harris.

She’s strong in the air, a generally good kick and attacks the ball ferociously. She is, however, pretty ordinary below her knees.

If that was a good look then I would hate to see some of the other games.

Well I found it easier to watch than a lot of our games last year. At least they were willing.

I thought the improvement would be quicker but at least it’s improving. I think once every list is full of post 2000 DOB players it will significantly improve.

Yeah. Many of these girls have only played the game for 2-3 years. Wait another 5 or so when the kids who are currently 13-16 who are watching at the moment start coming through, it will improve significantly

Pretty much this - they’ll have options and support to pursue playing AFL just like their options and availability to dance are greater currently for example.

The shift in attitude and culture is happening.

Edit: I used one example - dance - its poor but I’m sure you can last past this

Like the majority of key forwards, her go is never going to be ground balls. She is a lead and mark forward who can take a contested grab (has the most in the history of the AFLW). So I find this talk about her being crap below her knees to be a bit of a joke.

In fact there was an article in The Age that outlined while she is not great below her knees she still generates scoring opportunities from ground balls. The article mentioned Darcy Vesico generates the most scoring shots from ground balls, well no ■■■■ you tools, guess what Eddie Betts generates more scoring shots from ground balls than Jon Patton does as well, amazing huh?.

From all the analysis I’ve seen today I’ve got no idea how she rates as a player below her knees or at ground balls get…because no thought to compare her to other AFLW key forwards such as Katie Brennan or Sabrina Frederick or even AFL key forwards.

Is she useless below her knees for a specialist small forward AFLW flanker type…yes, but that’s not what she is there for. Is she useless below her knees for an AFLW key forward, don’t know because no one thought it was worth analysising.
