Based on form in the practice matches/VFLW this year (and Radio 3DJR’s biases) this should be close to the team chosen:
B
Gamble
Vogt
HB
Gay
G. Clarke
MORCS
C
Keaney
Walker
Cain
HF
Bannister
Alexander
A. Clarke
F
Toogood
Gough
Foll
Wales
Nanscawen
Prespakis
Bench
Jacques
Adams
Radford
Gaylor
Gee
The bench is all smalls. The first four have impressed; Gee = meh.
If we want another tall defender (note I have named Vogt in defence), I hope Brown is available because vanLoon continues to not inspire (plus see the next paragraph).
I’ve dropped Dyke; Gough to be second ruck. She did quite well in that role today, and across the five games I’ve seen of her my opinion is that it is negligent to play her in defence. Think Nic Martin level of negligence.
Injury queries (so banned from listing above):
Williamson
van Dyke
van de Heuvel
Scott
Brown
Available but not named:
Sheridan
Dyke
van Loon
Busch
Myself and some other EWN committee members will be coming to cheer the girls on this Saturday. I’ll be in the Windy Hill Social Club having a beverage from about 2pm if you want to come say hello!
This article mentions that we’re “sweating on the fitness” of Brown and VDH, soft tissue injuries. Doesn’t mention Scott but the injury section is clearly just a skim through. Potentially 3 fairly major outs to start the season if Scott is in doubt as well
AFLW members can scan into Windy Hill using their mobile membership, found within the Essendon app.
More information on how to use your AFLW membership can be found here.
Non-members can purchase their tickets online via Ticketmaster, or at the gates upon arrival. We strongly recommend fans purchase their tickets online before the game to ensure easy access into Windy Hill, as we expect long wait lines at the ticket window.
Need assistance? Our friendly membership team will be available from 1:30pm from the ticket box at both the Brewster and Raleigh Street gates.
If you’re not yet an AFLW member, be sure to sign up and show your support. Further information on AFLW memberships can be found here.
PARTNERS AND ACTIVATIONS
There will be a little something for everyone inside the stadium on Saturday, so we recommend getting to the game nice and early to make the most of everything on offer.
Make sure you swing by activation zone inside the Raleigh Street gate to keep the whole family entertained pre-game. You can test your skills in the Fujitsu Warm Up Zone or hop on a bike to blend yourself a smoothie thanks to Liberty. If the pre-game nerves are getting to you, be sure to head to the NEC Chill Hill.
You can then get your game-face on by visiting our friends at Toyota Forklifts for free facepainting!
There will be give aways from partners Toyota Forklifts, Palo Alto Networks and Liberty to make sure no-one goes home empty handed!
If you’re looking for a bite to eat, make sure you check out the food trucks that will be stationed inside the two gates and on the hill. If a sit-down meal is more your speed, make sure to head into the Windy Hill bistro for a great feed. If you’re 18+ and in need a refreshing beverage, head over to the bar at Gate 1 for the new Carlton Draught with a splash of lemonade from our good friends at CUB.
Be sure to stick around post-game to have a kick on Windy Hill thanks to Maccas Kick to Kick once the second siren has sounded.
GETTING THERE AND ENTRY TO THE GROUND
There is limited street parking available around Windy Hill, so it is recommended that all patrons are use [sic] public transport to arrive at the venue. Windy Hill is only a short 500m walk from Essendon Station, which can be accessed via train, bus and tram. Make sure you plan your journey ahead of time to make sure you don’t miss the first bounce!
Bringing your own chair is not permitted at AFLW games, if you require a seat we recommend arriving early and finding a seat in the Reynolds or Cookson Stands.
Pets are not allowed inside the Windy Hill precinct on game day. If you have a service pet, please bring necessary documentation to ensure you and your pet are welcomed into the stadium.
DJR - are you happy with this team? Everything I’ve read/seen so far makes me think with a bit going our way this season could finish top 6? Should take care of freo???
