Team are released the night before, so still two days to wait to find out who is our new #1 ruck!

■■■■■■■ lol

How hard would it be, considering everything going on at the club, for someone to say “we’re not doing that. Make it $70”.

Whoever is in marketing / hospo should be joining the math ekthoduth.

But anyway, looking forward to watching this one.

Box Hill Community Radio station 3WBC 94.1FM will be covering Melbourne-based games of the Hawthorn AFLW team, beginning this Saturday night at Marvel Stadium.

If it was $70, heck even $80-90, a ticket I’d probably have purchased one.

But $185? Not a hope.

Taking the ■■■■ and harming the “product” from the beginning.

The players deserve better than to be tarnished with the same brush as the inept mens.

Will be there. Can’t wait. Go Bombers!

Essendon v Hawthorn at Marvel Stadium, 7:10pm AEST

Moved to Marvel Stadium due to high ticket demand, the introduction of both Essendon and Hawthorn will now be on the big stage. Both sides have stacked their lists with established players but shape up in very different ways. For Hawthorn there is a dearth between its older, experienced players and bright young talent, whereas Essendon is a bit more evenly spread.

The Bombers’ midfield and forward line are exciting, and in preseason matches have shown an ability to win ball and hit the scoreboard. In front of the ball the combination of co-captain Bonnie Toogood, Daria Bannister, and draftee Paige Scott spells trouble for Hawthorn’s backline if Essendon can move it inside 50 quickly. The lead up and contested marking ability of the trio, combined with their follow up at ground level will be exceptionally hard for the Hawks to contain, and in attempting to do so they simply cannot flood into defence and lose structure ahead of the ball.

Tip: Essendon will take the win in its first ever AFLW match. The Bombers by 15 points.

We have Zanchetta and Ayre out for 1-2 weeks. Hawks have a few more players than us out (and you don’t need many out from a squad of 30 to struggle to name 21 in form).

Player Injury Estimated return
Emily Everist Ankle 4 weeks
Kate McCarthy Suspension Round two
Aine McDonagh Ribs 2 weeks
Isabelle Porter Thigh 2 weeks
Jenna Richardson Thigh 8 weeks

Porter did a decent run-with on Nanscawen in the drawn VFLW game. Everist is a key defender who played with our VFLW this year.

I, for one, welcome our new Essendon Education Academy communication specialist.

With Essendon’s inaugural AFLW side set to play their first ever match for Premiership points on Saturday night, star recruit Jess Wuetschner is relishing the opportunity to run out with her new teammates.

The 30-year-old Tasmanian joined the Bombers in June as a delisted free agent, bringing a wealth of AFLW experience from the Brisbane Lions with the 2021 Premiership, 2018 All-Australian honours and multiple leading goal-kicker awards under her belt.

Wuetschner couldn’t be keener for to the Dons’ clash with Hawthorn being moved to Marvel Stadium after a huge influx of ticket sales saw the fixture shuffled to the 53,000-seat capacity arena.

“It’s been a long time since I played on Marvel, maybe seven or eight years ago now," Wuetschner said.

“It’s an amazing deck and a huge occasion for women’s football as well. I’m keen to see the team out there and show what we can do.”

The tough small forward has also been enticed by the improvement of the team’s younger talents over their pre-season hit-outs.

“A lot of the young girls like Paige Scott and Amber Clarke have really impressed. They showed a bit of Bombers football, which is exciting," Wuetschner said.

After a productive 38 games over five seasons at the Lions, Wuetschner has settled in easily with the red and black, and she’s well aware of the significance attached to the club’s inaugural women’s game.

“I’m enjoying the new culture, being a part of a different atmosphere and a new playing group," Wuetschner said.

"Being a part of a club like Essendon with big history against Hawthorn is exciting, so there’s a lot of buzz around the club and within myself as well.”

Essendon’s history-making AFLW season kicks off at 7:10pm this Saturday against Hawthorn at Marvel Stadium.

Reminder: all games are ticketed, even the free kid entries.

(Hmmm… not sure if the free kids attract a booking fee!)

To be fair, footy is back after almost two months off… of course it would be front and centre!

I had to warn a certain Düsseldorf based Blitzer that he/she was in danger of being banned by a mod for referring to the off-season.

Do Mods know how many are tracking a thread?
Brownie points if they can identify those tracking but not posting?

Sooooooooo getting fined for releasing the team on Thursday rather than the approved 24 hours before.
