I was disappointed the game wasn’t telecast.
It wasnt? I watched it on the foxtel.
Kayo here, was broadcast live
The Kayo commentators must have been crapping on a lot – every single centre throw-up was sooooooooooo slow to happen.
I don’t have Foxtel or Kayo, l rely on games being on FTA.
Pretty much wall to wall comments with no silence. I sort of enjoyed it, although I suspect Ellie Blackburn probably found it hard to not openly barrack for Bonnie.

Game was lost in the 2nd quarter. Dinky little kicks, when quick, long kicks deep inside 50 today were needed (to the Primary School end).
We needed Alexander or Wales parked at the hot spot 25 metres out from goal, with the aim to put the ball on their head, with rovers working at their feet. Instead, we got this crappy little short chip kicks… when we’ve got a three goal gale!
Paige Scott… needs to be dropped and someone needs to steal and burn that “specky bag” she practices on.
In the third quarter, our special comments person mentioned Scott always seemed half-a-step behind the play. I said “yeah, because she’s trying to get a run up to take the bloody specky of the year all the time”. What is boneheaded, is she wanted the ball delivered high too her that quarter… when were kicking into the bloody wind!!
Could have done with Whoosa and Dani Marshall in the side today…
I don’t know if Marshall would have made a huge difference but I’m obviously still filthy that she was dropped. She spent a lot of time on the bench last week so I was certainly worried. I’m getting the idea Nat Wood doesn’t rate her very much.
Nobody in the backline really played well except for maybe Gamble.
As with Tierney and Doonan today, I find it hard to believe anyone sits on the bench the entire last quarter purely because they are unliked (especially today, when that meant reducing the bench size from 4 to 2).
No to the former, yes to the latter (which is a bizarrely different warm-up to everyone else).
As per Tony Lockett, Paige Scott’s feet should never* leave the ground.
*almost never
She’s such a tough prescence, big ball winner, but just not taking the grabs or kicking many goals. Has she played much in the midfield? Feel like she could have a Jake Stringer-like prescence as a contested ball winner and inside mid, to compliment and take some pressure off Prespakis. Not effective enough up forward I think.
Paige is 19?
Second full year of AFLW footy.
Toogood is our key target. We go to her as often as possible. As Paige gets older, she’ll form a great duo with Bonnie.
It would be good if she picked and chose her times to go for the hanger a bit more, but that’s who she is. It’ll come off eventually and she’ll keep doing it.
I wouldn’t drop her. There’s only 30 players on our list and 6 are either injured or still coming back through injury and Cat Phillips isn’t even included on that list.
Given we had two players sit the bench the last quarter, I’d assume they’d be out next week. Cain is likely out due to concussion.
We’re all of a sudden down to 20 players. The only fit players not playing is Leah Cutting and Dani.
Dropping Paige to play those scrimmage games will not really help at all. It’s not like there is EDFL or VFLW for players to get back to and work on their craft. It becomes just a scrimmage game of everyone who doesn’t get selected from the entire league so there’s really no gameplan or anything like that to learn from those games. She’ll get more benefit from AFLW games.
I’m surprised Maddy got a lot of 3 votes. She gets a lot of the footy and is dependable, but every here and there her kicking is poor and she gets frustrated with the tag and gives away free kicks. I get she deserves more free kicks, but giving them away doesn’t help. It’s not often, but every 2 or 3 weeks, she has a down game. I was going to give her a vote, but thought Brooke deserved it a bit more. There wasn’t much between Kodi, Brooke and Maddy.
I like the switch of Kodi forward / midfield. It’s worked well.
The van Loon forward experiment didn’t work well.
We badly need outside run. Gee is out unless we reach finals which is hurting us. Even with her in the team, I feel we’re just short of speed and overlap run.
It was a very disappointing loss though. Even if there was no wind, we would have lost. Didn’t seem like we were ready for the game which is a common theme normally, but that was different. It was the first humid training session we’ve had so maybe it got to more players than not.
The last qrt is not going to cover up the previous 3 qrts.
Didnt kick a goal for 3 qrts almost went the whole game goaless insipid.
Type of game that gets coaches sacked Nat is lucky that its her second year.
Also lucky she beat Geelong and Richmond, both teams who should be ahead of us, in consecutive weeks?
It was a poor game, no doubt. But we don’t need to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Will the girls learn from this? Doubt it they didnt learn from the practice game against WC
We are sitting 5-3 with two winnable (but challenging) games to come. In our second season.
I reckon we are doing better than alright overall.
They need a reserves comp if they aren’t going to have the VFLW coincide with the AFLW season. As it currently is, non-selected players don’t have any way to get form.
You know Nino…just occasionally, you could try and post something remotely positive.
Like suggesting a possible solution to one of the many problems you see with the team(s).
Everyone in here gets that you’re really passionate about the club but your never ending pessimism just wears us all down.
There was nothing positive about losing to the worst team in the comp we were held goaless for 3 qrts
