LNP Feds and NSW have burnt far, far more money that this will.

I agree, but clearly Dan has kicked himself and us taxpayers in the nuts with this

No point dancing around that fact

Aren’t the Olympics slowly facing the same problem, i.e. minimal bidders? Complete waste of money, they can go too.

Bargain

reckon the Olympics should stay in one spot and avoid this constant outlay of $$$ to build new facilities each time

They need to follow the '84 LA model which was to use existing venues for pretty much everything. That one made $250 (USD) million in profit.

Montreal didn’t finish paying for Stade Olympique until 2006.

IOC and those cashed up national Olympic committees should pay for the Games, seeing as how they make the most money out of them. The cashed up international sports federations could also contribute, instead of paying outrageous salaries and other benefits (like free international first class travel and lodgings to events) to the mates they select between themselves on the Committees.

We need someone like @Bacchusfox

Good old fashioned morals, transparency, integrity and to wind back the recent pokie reforms.

CGF chief executive Katie Sadleir, who is also on the board of the 2026 organising committee, told The Australian on Tuesday night (AEST) that ā€œof course the Commonwealth Games will continueā€. She claimed some other Australian states had already been in touch about hosting the event, while the organisation was getting ā€œstrongā€ support from other Commonwealth nations

Is she saying that some Premiers been telling porkies to the media today?

WA don’t consider themselves as a state of Australia so it can’t be them

  • Have no morals
  • But Completely transparent
  • Doubtful or little or no integrity
  • But like the gambling reforms

Given every state has ruled it out today, you have to conclude it’s a dog of an event.
