Now, can we get rid of the Commonwealth while we’re at it?

Theres only one sort of person who feels the need to say this ■■■■ in the media though.

With hosting Olympics and Commonly games etc, is there good money to be made for the host?

:joy:

look at Brisbane when they hosted last comm games, they said that they brought in approx 2 billion in income. pretty much what they outlayed.

So break even but you’ve got additional infrastructure that could be used for other hosting events/re - purposed.

You have to think that VIC budget for games of 1.7 billion was a bit low, but now the expected costs at 7 billion seem to high.

Its probably somewhere in the middle, but IMO they are unlikely to bring in 3-4 billion in income from the games, so thats why scrapped it.

Won’t cost $2B to roof that stadium. Maybe he means part of comm games money, if the rumour is in fact true.

It’s not a real tweet.

For reference, everyone who did an ANNOUNCE in correct format, as per @Soulnet plea got a like from me.

But likes are over now. Mostly because I have got bored and I have work to do, not because I ran out in true Olympic fashion.

Let the games begin.

AOC set itself up for life with broadcast rights for the Sydney Olympics and replays. The ABC couldn’t afford the price it charged for Freeman’s 400 metres in the doco on her.
There’s not much to be made from host broadcast rights for the Commonwealth Games and no one is much interested in historical replays.

He’ll just get all the landlords to bail him out.

If it’s to survive, they should do one or two sports at a time in any one country, farm the sports around.
FIFA Women’s World Cup shouldn’t cost much and broadcast rights would be high revenue.

Ten News reporting there is a ‘breaking clause’ in the host city contract and taxpayers will be up for a minimum of $1 billion

We love burning cash in Victoria
