Not corrupt enough?

my million dollar idea:

tug of war at the olympics, but here’s the rules:

can only enter athletes already there for other sports
pack weight limits, so you can’t just stack it with chungi
every country enters
divisions are mixed 10s, mixed 4s, solo men, solo women. division depends on your total olympic team size (30+ → 10s; 7-29 ->, 4s; 6 or less → solo)
one venue, afternoon before closing ceremony, all other sports are finished
single elimination bracket, one-and-done winner moves on

should all be a bit of a silly buggers vibe. all the athletes in a ā€œhey isn’t sport greatā€ mood. no ones actually trained, just stepping in and going for it.

how good would it be. a dream bracket run by morocco or chile knocking off canada in the round of 16. usas combo of gynmasts and wrestlers up against brazils all-footballers team. 10,000 athletes each picking a side and getting around bhutan v malawi in the womens solo final.

How did she get selected? I’ve seen far better by kids in the streets.

I don’t have any idea about that.

She set up a Federation of sorts

Following Tracey Holmes on twitter, there are suggestions that the Algerian boxer controversy has been set up by Russia. The last month, when Russia was UNSC President , it initiated a discussion claiming that the UN was being too woke with its focus on LBQTI rights. Russia is anti LBQTI.
Also allegedly it controls the IBA, at odds with the IOC and considered corrupt. As yet, boxing is not on the list for the next Olympics, with the IOC refusing to recognise the International Federation status of the IBA.

ā€œWe argue that breaking’s institutionalization via the Olympics will place breaking more firmly within this sporting nation’s hegemonic settler-colonial structures that rely upon racialized and gendered hierarchies. As such, in this article we discuss and examine how the Olympics impacts ongoing local, social and cultural productions and expressions of hip hop, and the distinct possibilities of breaking that enable its participants to ā€˜show and prove’ outside standardized, institutionalized rubricsā€

She won the Oceania champs to gain selection at the Olympics so she is obviously the best we have in the region unfortunately

i don’t like counter-arguing academic articles on the abstract alone, but i feel as though fitting a style of freeform expression into a standardised and institutionalised rubric, such as a competition at the summer olympic games, kinda defeats the point being made

might give that a read on the work clock next week

Red Bull has organised World Breaking Champs to be held in Brazil in December. It has set up a few comps in Australia for the selection

Surely not. That performance was laughable

Faniel, the italian, making a break at the 11km mark. Hot and humid conditions coupled with a tough course, let’s see how this works out for him. Bold move.

At the 14.5 km mark now.

Maybe all the good breakdancers accepted an icy cold can of Coke from the Triple M Black Thunders and lost their amateur status?

ok, so i read the publication, and i have a new theory

raygun learned in her consultation with the community that breakings inclusion in the olympics will have more negative impact than positive, and so sacrificed her own dignity in order to sabotage it.

to do this effectively, she had to commit what is a cardinal sin among young people - make it cringey

for that, i salute her

(caveat: i have never met her, this is a shtpost that i have entirely made up. that said, i will stand by this theory until i die)

Halfway point and the pack has caught up to the Italian. Kipchoge struggling and looks injured, doubt there will be a threepeat. The Ethiopian, Tola, looking strong out the front. Tough hill climb has found out a few.

The breakdancing reminds me of something out of Kath and Kim

about 5 minutes ago i read on twitter that gordan bray was commentating it on 3aw and i have only just regained enough composure to write this post

i’ve also created a new narrative thread to my above theory: that silly salmon move she did is regarded by dedicated breakers as technically quite difficult to pull off but is functionally useless, so they immediate know what she’s doing. like if a footy team tanked a game by just kicking torps all the time

-edit- i’ve never read a screenplay, much less written one, but maybe i should give it a shot
