Yep you can take some personal highlights and glimpses from certain young players, but end of day an interstate team came to our home dung hill, rested some of their key players, and walloped us by 10 goals with out breaking a sweat.

To put that comment in context, what have those clubs achieved since then (apart from corrupting the draft process, and of course winning more finals than EFC)?
We are physically weak. Man-handled in the contest and when the ball is in the air.
I think there are signs of a willingness to move the ball quicker and take a few more risks, but the undoing of the sideways slow ball movement “Scott-Ball” is going to take some time. The players need to be de-programmed.
But his form in the VFL suggested we couldn’t select him against Hawthorn in the first place.
What about Jones getting selected continuously as well. He has been absolutely useless.
Watching the presser, Solomon commented that there were literally no other key backs available to play that were in form. Suspect Jones got a gig by default.
He also confirmed Mckay would play VFL next week.

The most depressing features of the game were confirming that Reid, although having some talent, is too light and easily pushed aside. If he is to be a valuable contributor to the Bombers backline he must add some size, some muscle, otherwise he’s just a rag doll. I hope the coaching staff work on him in the off season otherwise he’s a lost cause.
My second frustration is at the other end - Caddy. Despite all the hype of a future star - he goes missing far too often. Seems to have the enthusiasm and occasionally (too infrequently) does amazing things - very frustrating. Too often runs under the ball, drops marks he should be taking. No longer can we say “young and inexperienced” - he’s been around long enough now and unless he has a breakout season, with some solid coaching” he could end up a fizzer and we look to trade him out for an upgrade in the next 2 years. I hope not, but he’s frustration plus.
Peter Wright has at times been accused of dropping too many gettable marks but he seems to have overcome that. Keep it up Peter, your efforts this week were inspirational.
Sharp - he’s going to be a power house midfielder like some of the other young guns at the Eagles and Port. Along with a few other of our young guns there is room for optimism over the next 2-3 years but ones like Jones, Cox, Guelfi, McMahon, Langford, Perkins, McKay, Gresham, El-Hawli and maybe even Bryan need to be replaced with new talent that will inject serious talent to give us realistic hope for the future.
No more same old, same old!

Does everyone realise that this improved “effort” is a result of a man on man game plan? It’s under 10’s stuff and this happens every single year this side has been asked to play a team/zone defence. At some stage in the year, we always ditch the zone defence because the players just don’t get it.
A man on man game plan with outnumber at the contest LOOKS better from an effort perspective, but it’s actually setting us back long term. I’d rather lose by 120 points with this dumb group of players trying to play a modern brand of football.
Man on man does not work and it’s a ■■■■■■■ embarrassment that we have to resort to this to be competitive.

This is why clubs don’t embark on rebuilds. Pies and Cats are adamant they won’t. The draft system is too much corrupted by Academy and free agency - biggest issue being top sides, like Brisbane, can sign up top players from other clubs and give up 0 points to get them. It’s a free hit that has to change.

Unfortunately when the previous list manager leaves a steaming pile of excrement behind you have to go the complete rebuild. The competent list managers are able to build sides that have a solid core and they can continually top up. We kept kicking the can down the road and here we are.

The low point was when we were in attack and he got the ball. First he did his usual trick of turning and running into trouble, then turning again into different trouble, but then finally getting clear on the fifty metre line and dropping a perfect pass to the lone Adelaide player between two Essendon players.

Is that what FARK Carlton have reverted to? I’ve only watched snippets of them play but they seem to play a simpler game plan now.

Absolutely not. The opposite. Voss’ gameplan was all contest and they got caught on the spread.
Fraser has them playing very expansive footy.
