I don’t often come into this thread, it is just too depressing. I just came in to post something l found, that might be of interest to regular Blitzvisitors of this thread. I fully realize l am preaching to the converted, but believe this is worth posting.

How about we pay more attention to our own issues here in Victoria, since crime seems to be escalating far to quickly.

Did get chased by an angry dad in his undies with a cricket back while knick knocking in the backstreets of Essendon circa 1992, but that seems quite excessive

Another church shooting. This time a Mormon church in Michigan. 2 dead but there may be more as the building was set alight with people in it. Gunman is a marine veteran according to some reports. Horrific.

The ‘elephant in the room’ in all of this is the ‘right’ to bear arms. That’s not going to change. Many Yanks fetishise their guns. Many otherwise sensible people, go ape over their Second Amendment. So while there is much ringing of hands, many ‘thoughts and prayers’, etc. nothing will occur, apart from Trump trying to blame the ‘extreme left’.
‘Fetishise’ is an apt term. And as they become more taboo, they become more titillating.
It’s partly a mental health issue, if you ask me. Are some yanks addicted to their guns? They feel safe when armed and empowered when owning a gun upsets political opponents. Their gun is too closely linked to their sense of well being.
