Thanks for your constructive advice. I apologise for having an opinion that is counter to the majority. Perhaps I listened a bit too closely to my fathers view of war (him having been in it and all). I guess he should have hardened up too
I think I can hear the worlds smallest violin playing, hope it helps
Probably shouldn’t support a team called the bombers then yea? There’s 17 other teams out there. Maybe try the Cats? They’re so cute and fluffy
I hope the club tells the story of who was behind the design and how it come about.
It will be the clubs biggest seller ever, no doubt about it.
I get that their will be slight blowback over this, but that is one cool looking top.
I usually separate the team names from real life stuff. It’s just a team name and a cool one at that but sure I get it from the other side.
$30 Bombershop coupon at the ready.
Geez, you’re a class act
I like the aesthetics. And I think if we are doing ANZAC day anyway, then it’s hard to avoid the connotations of war.
Though with all due respect to everyone’s grandfathers, I have a question from a historical point of view: Why not a Mosquito? Or a Lancaster? Like, a Beaufighter is primarily a… fighter, not a bomber. (Yes, I know rockets and torpedos, but…)
Mosquitoes have killed more people around the world than war has.
I may have made that up, but I’m sticking by it!
Thanks Paddy, I’m trying to be. Thanks again
Given malaria has been around for, well probably forever, and it kills lots of people still - yeah, fair chance that is the case. Even would have been responsible for a swathe of deaths during the world wars.
Keith Rawle worked on Spitfires, Boomerangs and Beaufighters. No Lancs, Wellingtons or even Blenheims.
The bomber looks like it has been shot to pieces.
So probably very appropriate for Essendon on Anzac Day!
I initially thought it was a submarine… and I thought that was appropriate.
Hi all
I’ve been a long time blitz reader but never felt the need to join or post anything as it’s not my thing but must admit as someone in there late 40s who has followed Essendon there hole life and being the black sheep in the family for it I got quite a lot of enjoyment out off seeing the 2026 Anzac Day jumper.
I’m hoping that the more aggressive nature of the design matched by the change in recent recruiting will bring a harder edged to a team that has been pushed around for far too long specially on a day that represents such importance to soo many and is an honour for the players too get to play a part in it
Now perhaps it’s just a case of being starved of success for so long that something as small as a jumper design can give me a little more bounce in my step but it really does feel that things are finally changing because selfishly I’m not sure how much longer I can keep my 12 year old son from jumping ship too another team which would really suck considering I named him after a recently past captain and BROWNLOW medallist who wore number 4
Welcome aboard to both you and your son Dic# Rhyno
Welcome to the dark side of blitz, in no time you’ll be a posting regular.
In the spirit of Blitz, I would like to acknowledge that following Essendon also makes me feel like my life is in a hole.
My grandfather was an engine fitter in a Beaufighter Squadron (30 SQN), so it’s always been a favourite of mine. Never thought I’d see one on an Essendon jumper…
Great design… nailed it
