One of the many issues with being the worst team in the league is that no reputable coach would come to us as they need to be assistant coaches at successful clubs to be considered for a senior role in the future.

We should be looking to get creative and looking at good VFL, SANFL and WAFL coaches and seeing who we can find

This may be slightly overstated as when we were going through our selection process we were looking at certain candidates (McVeigh as an example) and saying gee he sure helped build them up into a fairly good team from the bottom. Was more of an encouraging thing rather than a black mark so I’d expect coaches could think the same way - that assuming improvement and success obviously

I suppose you’re right. I can see it being an attractive proposition for newer assistants with a point to prove, or those who have been in the game for a while and aren’t looking to get a senior role in the next few years.
Some may recall that Buchanan was the player that Johnno stood over 20 years ago and said ‘get up you weak dog’ and copped a 50. The ump sheepishly said you can’t call someone a weak dog.

Apologies - meant to say Clarke. Someone posted upthread that he’s likely to go to Collingwood (which lines up with him cleaning out his stuff at the Saints).
Was just saying he would have been someone I’d be keen on at Essendon.

Yeah for sure, if we had a couple of assistants that were in the frame to be senior coaches obviously that’s a stack of experience and knowledge we could bady use, hopefully we get a few decent operators

Connecting some dots, I wonder if we’re going after Fremantle’s Head of Development, Geoff Valentine. Matt Rosa appointed him as Peel coach before we was promoted into the Head of Development role in 2024.
