At the movies - From the couch

Probably the most low profile lead up to the Oscars ever will now have the most profile review/analysis…

I don’t think it was staged, as some have suggested, but pretty convenient timing.

CODA becomes the second foreign made ripoff to win Best Picture … the first being (insert trivia question here)

Yeah those two examples surely are awful, i’d add Haneke’s pointless remake of his own Funny Games to that list, but there are exceptions, and Sorcerer is one of them.

The Magnificent Seven?

I should mention that I also despise US remakes of US classics. Whoever thought doing a Mr Deeds Goes To Town with Adam Sandler needs to be publicly hanged, drawn and quartered in Times Square or the Washington Mall.

see, now this surprises me. I would of had you down as an Adam Sandler kind of guy

Have you seen the American remake of ‘Force Majeure’??

Departed

And you can’t be too rich and famous to be henpecked.

If that is real… It’s absolutely pathetic.

The remake of the French classic ‘The Dinner Game’ with Steve Carell is tear your eyeballs out stuff.

Just so bad.

The French can do ‘crass’ subtly. The Yanks simply can’t.

Three Men and a Baby, The Fugitives were a couple of François Véber they tried.

Heh

I didn’t like the original much. It’s nasty. I didn’t bother watching the remake.

It’s nasty but the idiot gets his revenge!

Dinner for Schmucks? Yeah, that was appalling.

True

I have never heard of it before, but you have convinced me to avoid it.

Me neither, but now I kind of wanna watch this remake just to see how bad it is.
