At the movies

Pacific Rim was awesome. it did what it was meant to do.

and thats be what transformers 2-3-4-5-6 watever should have done.

Agreed. Transformers fighting godzillas. What more could you ask for?

The problem with PR was the pacing/script.

  1. 2nd best fight of film
  2. 80 minutes of bad accents
  3. Best fight of the film
  4. Worst fight of the film

Watched Capt Phillips on the weekend, Great movie.

Saw this last week. Pretty enthralling. Didn't think I'd actually enjoy it but it sucks you in. The gung-ho yanky marine stuff is there but the acting is superb and the somali pirates come across as pretty genuine.

The accents were hilarious.

just noticed '20 Feet from Stardom' is on at the Nova.  I saw this on the plane to New Zealand.  Very interesting documentary about back up singers.  Includes interviews with a number of big name performers.  If you like music and are a fan of the 'behind the scenes' type stuff, I can very much recommend this.

Anyone seen The Counsellor yet?

Going to see it tonight - date night...

Good mate of mine, who's a pretty good judge, didn't think much of it....at all.

Just got back a little while ago, I thought it was pretty good and thought provoking, I wouldn't say it was enjoyable exactly, parts of it certainly were though it kind of has horror elements to it.
Anyway, I thought the acting and characters were top notch, and I liked the themes and its general style.
It's a very serious movie though for the most part, and lots of dialogue, surprised it wasn't rated R.
Worth a look for sure, I'd give it 3.5 stars.
Now you've seen it, I'll tell you he thought it was one of the worst films he's ever seen.

I can see why some people wouldn't eally like it, it was a bit harrowing and WTF at times, the feeling walking out of the cinema was a bit strange, still trying to piece it altogether in your head.
But if that's one of the worst films he's ever seen I wouldn't be paying too much attention to his opinion.
What kind of movies does he like?

He's a pretty good judge. You're the first person I've heard who thought it was any good. It's at 35% on Rotten Tomatoes...and I think it's climbed a bit.

Whose opinion should I listen to?

I do tend to work out what people's tastes are...for instance, I'd be highly unlikely to want to see anything Crazy Bomber likes. And that Disinterested Handjob's opinions suck donkey balls. But then, I wouldn't consider going to anything like LOTR. It's just not my thing...nor my mate's.

You've just convinced me not to watch it.
I've already seen U-571, unfortunately.
And I have a connection to Somalia so the last thing I'd want to watch is America, ■■■■ Yeah about it.

I don't think it's like that. The gung-ho stuff is more there as a "just put your head up and we'll blow it off" sort of thing, which is just matter-of-fact.

The Americans or the Somalians?
Yeah...not swaying me.

Idris Elba is actually English but the Aussie accents were BAD.

worst aussie accent ever was Tarantino in Django Unchained, completely took me out of of the film. Loved it up until that point.

John Jarratt claimed he was blown away by how good it was. I lost respect for him that day.

I heard George Layton and Martin Shaw try it on an episode of the Sweeney...made Tarantino sound like Paul Hogan.

Americans in general seem to be pretty poor at doing any accent but their own.

Are you analysing the script Transformers Vs Godzilla?

No

Saw the second Hunger Games last night....the actual games just flew.

Third one should be interesting. Donald Sutherland and Stanley Tucci are going DOWN!

Is the Hunger Games actually good? One of those things where the whole thing has just passed me by. I have NFI what it is

Finally saw Gravity. There are no words.

18/10.
