I think it's interesting to note how Hird's return has been managed.
- Prior to his return to Australia it was announced that he would not be coaching this year, but rather have back room duties regarding list management and planning for 2015.
- Arrives home from France earlier than expected.
- Meets discreetly with senior players over dinner prior to his suspension ending, to 'make plans for 2015'.
- Attends the footy on the weekend with Little and Campbell (is this confirmed?)
- Fronts the press on Monday with the new CEO as he returns to work, confirms he wants Bomber to stay and receives tour of the new facility from Neil Craig (Hird's new boss).
- Is part of a video for fans on Tuesday which shows him mixing with the players/Jobe/Bomber/Little etc having a bit of a laugh and raising money for charity.
I'd say his return has been managed pretty well so far? Amiright?
I heard Mike Sheehan ***** about how Hird didn't have to have a tour of the facility and he could have stayed home etc... I think it was stage managed well. Tell the press when you'll be available, give then some sound bites, pose for some photos, control the narrative.
The fact is, right now we are the biggest story in town, and if the press want to be a part of it, they will have to start playing nice.
