Gorton became Prime Minister as a senator then transferred to lower house. The only to do so.
Iāve heard a few scenarios for why Bandtās preference voting went down at this election. I donāt think there was one thing, but multiple.
-
Greens voters were not impressed that it took them so long to commit to the Voiceā¦ā¦ as there was internal politics with Lidia Thorpe on the matter.
-
Their strong commitment to Gaza and lack of advocacy on Environment, turned away climate concerned Liberal voters from preferencing Greens over Labor.
-
New Electorate borders encompassed more high Labor voting neighbourhoods.
Thanks. Wasnāt aware of that. Which seat will be found for Jacinta, I wonder.
My guess is she will stay in the senate
Angus is only warming the seat for Hastie
What were the preferences on the official Lib HTV card? I know they put the Greens last, but the Libs in the electorate might not have stomached the high preferences for others.
It seems the Lib voters have delivered the seat to Labor. Thatās two gains for Labor in Victoria with Sukkar going down, possibly three with Menzies, one possible loss in a regional seat (Bendigo)
Liberal preferences were certainly stronger to ALP than to the Greens this election.
The Libs went all out to destroy the Greens this time.
el dutto is back almost fooled us with his conciliation speech
That was because John McEwan , Country Party leader, refused to serve under Billy MacMahon, the chosen one in Lib Party politics. From memory, McEwan ( as Deputy PM ) filled in as Acting PM when Billy was forced to resign as PM, until Gorton got his Reps seat.
I canāt remember the alternatives to MacMahon in the Reps, but there was all out War between the two Parties.
Wait, you are telling me a poll which estimated the independent would get 41% primary when he only got 10-11% was just complete bullshit to generate a headline?
Dreyfus and Husic axed from ministry according to the Age.
Green calling Menzies for Labor. Nice short family name of Ng, easier to spell also, after trying to remember the spelling of Keithās last name.
Really? What are you basing this on Baz? Do you have an independent poll or survey on this? And Iām not referring to a Blitz poll.
Age Resolve poll in December 2024 rated Price the second most likeable politician in Australia.
Roy Morgan Poll in November 2023 rated Price as having the second highest net trust score behind Penny Wong of any Australian politician.
I understand the visceral response to Jacinta Price because of her views; but based on the polls and information Iāve seen it shows she is one of the most trusted and likeable politicians in Australia.
- The residents of Carlton, Fitzroy, Richmond and South Yarra are some of the wealthiest landowners in the state. Plus all those Doctors, Architects and Lawyers are probably landlords with an investment property or two.
The greens were very vocal about property prices and landlords the past few years. Itās one thing to preference the greens for environmental concerns at the expense of an abstract lower corporate sector growth vs now preferencing the greens which may result in 100ās of thousands hit to your personal wealth.
Bandt has a super weird seat, housing affordability would have played well to all the poor students in his electorate but not to the wealthy homeowners which are a substantial portion of his constituents.
Yeah, that is effectively what happened, but officially Gorton was elected as leader of the Libs (beating Paul Hasluck iirc). Since he was in the Senate he could not become PM until after he transferred to the lower house. So Black Jack McEwan held the PM status until Gorton could be parachuted in.
for the record, I think Gorton was the most honest of the Lib PMs - not that he has had much to beat. He was a fighter pilot in WW2 so was not a typical Lib blue-blood.

I canāt remember the alternatives to MacMahon in the Reps, but there was all out War between the two Parties.
Paul Hasluck but he was from WA so was not favoured by the Tories,

Age Resolve poll in December 2024 rated Price the second most likeable politician in Australia.
Gee @Lawry, youāre really dredging the bottom for content if thatās the best proof you can offer.
A whopping 8% of those polled rated her as the most likeable leader.
Thatās is hardly any sort of outstanding endorsement.

Dreyfus and Husic axed from ministry according to the Age.
The Age is several hours behind Blitz with that news.
Please try to keep up.

Bandt has a super weird seat,
Thatās a bit judgemental, isnāt it?
Well Iām happy for you to show me a poll or an independent survey that proves your point. Please post it or link it
