Australian Policies -- from 2025 Federal election

I’m less well informed about Nigerian history than I might be, but if the political and policing situation there was anything similar to that in other British African colonies, what that probably means is ‘torturer of independence activists’.

Sounds like someone born into the public service.

Her parents worked and lived in the uk, uae. Her old man was a spook for Britain and then Australia.

They bought a hobby farm outside of Canberra and she followed her old man into the public service as a training director.

I dunno. I think her parents lived an amazing life.

To me she strikes me as an average public servant turned politician.

She changed her name from Susan to Sussan because she likes numerology is about the most interesting thing in her Wikipedia biography.

Oh and her Gold Coast apartment fiasco.

Oh I know that, it’s just that Timothy and Murdoch were piling on the pressure for her to concede, mocking her, etc - and I’m pretty sure she never did. And here we are with it seemingly back in the balance.

Likewise I too am not fully informed about Nigerian history, but iirc english colonial mismanagement led to the Nigerian civil war and the genocide in Biafra. The Poms did nothing to prevent that. BP and Shell still made millions from Nigerian oil though.

Was going to say, people have very different ideas about what makes for an ‘amazing life’. Child of privilege - you don’t tend to get flying lessons as a teen if you’re not - had kids, got divorced, worked a couple of jobs before becoming a tax drone and then a lifer handmaid under some of the worst PM’s in Australian history and still not disavowing their worst policies. AMAZING LIFE. She’s an off season installation, and the fact that the PR push has been all about her ‘interesting’ life says a lot.

everyone deserves a go. leat see what sort of leader she is, she was a hopeless follower . I’ll be looking for some new ideas , not just how bad Labor and the greens and the teals are . we need an opposition to provide alternative ideas. ever since Abbott they are stuck in this mindset of always taking about Labor instead of what they would do. we need some serious reform on tax in this country and that also means making the wealthier and big corporations paying more and putting a cap on negative gearing and franking credits . I doubt the liberals can ever do this .
their ideas are always based on the premise that welfare ,health and education should be more user pays and will always try to push down the minimum wage.
they also see worker entitlements as excess .
if they double down on coal gas and nuclear they have no hope.

I think that was just Lawry.

.

I would probably rephrase it as someone who has lived a privileged life. (risking getting a right winger scream WoKe! using that word though :upside_down_face:).

She done well in her political life to rise to the leader of the Liberal party. But yeah there’s nothing imho remarkable about her life prior to entering politics.

She’s part of the vanishingly small proportion of people that have attended an Australian Boomerang Championship. And yes, she did fly herself to Albury to do that.

But did she fly back again?

Boomerangs are cool.

:boomerang:

Has she ever attended that event when it was not in her electorate?

Sit by the river scowling and watch the bodies of your bosses float by. Best get your goggles on SSSusannn.

It will be interesting to see if they actually give her much of a chance. They’re all about ‘merit’ right?

And, like Albanese, she is a former co-chair of the Parliamentary Friends of Palestine.

There’s been more than a few of her associates (not comrades, heaven’s no) trotting out the ‘remarkable background’ stuff in singing her praises, it’s a directive.

No. And I don’t know if she purchased any property on the same trip.

Well call it what you want. She’s achieved a bit. From a diversity perspective it sure beats the typical think tank political staffer or union official background.

Don’t underestimate the achievement of becoming the first female Liberal leader. That’s not an easy feat.

It’s not in the balance.

There’s about 3000 votes left to count. Tim Wilson has won Goldstein.

After celebrating her win, Zoe still has not conceded.

Darn. I thought with 10% uncounted, and approx 110k votes counted already, it meant ~11-12k votes left to count.

But the reporting must be different somehow, and overall too much for my crumbling brain.
