Morrison only had the more disliked Shorten to worry about. Anyone else was ALP leader and they would have won that election
24 years in the House will give him nice change in his super too, even if the fund is now defined contribution rather than defined benefit. Not sure when the DB bit got closed to new entrants.
Yeah nah disagree with this entirely. If it was an issue people felt strongly about, they would have voted Libs. Just a couple of people in this thread and Sky News care about SRL.
Thoughts and prayers.
Yeah, the greens had a terrible night when it comes to parliamentary representation, but last time I looked they were on track to actually slightly increase their primary vote. Not that this will be much consolation to them. The Brisbane seats they largely lost because the Lib vote cratered and it meant the greens would end up losing to the alp on lib preferences, rather than beating the libs on ALP preferences. In seats like this where you have a roughly even three cornered contest between Green, ALP and Lib, the basically the ALP will always win on preferences unless the top 2 are libs and greens. This dynamic favoured the Greens last election, this election it worked against them. Swings and roundabouts.
I think theyâre still most likely to just hang on to Melbourne and Ryan, but failing to get over the line in Wills will sting them, especially after Ratnam gave up her state seat to run there.
And in all honesty how would they do it? Would they kick out a sitting member to parachute him into a safe electorate and call a by election?
âSingle momâ?
The Greens vote held up nationally, their policies have appeal. At the intergenerational level, some policies are better than those of the ALP.
The problem is that in most cases they in contest with the ALP for seats. As they are unlikely to ever become the Party of Government, itâs safer to vote ALP ( to have it as the Party of Government rather than the right to extreme right).
I find it sad that the Greens have been almost wiped out in Germany, at a time of the rise of the far to extreme right.
Due to the Ukraine War, there has been an energy supply crisis in Europe ( more than the energy price crisis for us). This has led to a reversion to more dependence on fossil fuels and nuclear.
Ironically , this has swelled Norwayâs sovereign wealth funds.
Donât care. Have her report to the gulag first thing Monday.

I thought Victorian voters would reject Labor rather than deliriously run to LNP.
Whether Iâm right or wrong doesnât make any difference.
Fixed.

And in all honesty how would they do it? Would they kick out a sitting member to parachute him into a safe electorate and call a by election?
Also on this point, even if they wanted to parachute Frydenberg in somewhere, where do they do it?
Heâs a Melbourne guy, and the libs literally have no Melbourne city or suburban seats any more, safe or not (shut up about Casey, @megahertz ! )
If the libs really want to give frydenberg a seat (and honestly I donât think they do, thatâs a media wish fulfilment fantasy that wouldnât be shared by the modern right-dominated liberal party), then they have to find something in the regions, or else interstate.
Libs can just add one nation and make pauline the leader.
And it would me give me the greatest amount of joy for Josh to be parachuted to such a seat, only to not be voted in due to public backlash removing a popular local member lol.
Pro Palestine has more support than from those concerned about the plight of the Palestinians.
There are decent pockets of voters from a Lebanese, Syrian and Turkish background, others from a Muslim background ( including from Indo Asia in our own region).
I think that relates to the Reps.
Having control of both houses is pretty rare these days. At least the teals can stop crazy â â â â going through.

Libs can just add one nation and make pauline the leader.
Clive bombing out and One Nation not really doing much is a nice bonus from this election result. Hanson Jr seems unlikely to win the Tassie senate seat too.
Where does that leave the ratbag far right in future elections though? Both Clive and Hanson run cult of personality parties, but both are so old these days that theyâre almost crumbly and decrepit enough to run for president of the USA.
Thereâd obviously still a voter base eager to vote for this stuff, even if itâs not huge. There doesnât seem to be an obvious next generation successor to those two yet. Presumably itâll be some ratbag Twitter troll weâve never heard of.

Currently in emergency waiting for a Doctor and I can confirm that I needed my credit card.
Bugger.
I busted 5 ribs, got a crack in my hip, broke some small bones on my back and got clots on my lungs in a bike accident 3 weeks ago.
I presented at the Alfred emergency, spent a week in hospital and there wasnât a bill to be paid.

Is Ley a chance?
Wim. Pls.
Frydenberg is smart enough to know, even if they pulled off such a stunt, it would be a poison chalice. Thereâs no way he goes for this.

Itâs is like watching a funeral on Sky.
Can we get a replay anywhere? Iâve already bought the popcorn.
