The QLD Premier is up against it to retain government later this year. They’ve been under extreme pressure the last 12 months to appear more active in dealing with the youth crime issue. In light of the horrific death of the grandma, in front of a 6yo child in recent days, this comment isn’t being well received by the state.

Regarding solutions, the Oppo leader indicated he’d change youth crime policy by ditching youth detention which is currently only ‘as a last resort’.

So the oppo party are pledging to ditch youth detention? I doubt it. Or do you mean the ‘last resort’ bit, so expanding it?

Correct, the ‘last resort’ bit which will force lenient judges to not release them on these grounds.

How’s the blood draining from Ley’s face…

That was like heavyweight champ versus skinny kid from primary school.

How do you spend 2 weeks coming up with that much of a softball of a question? He’s so useless

To be fair, they had set up their inability to look confident with Ley’s initial blunder. That set the Murdoch pens/talking heads off in a railing against the changes, which kept up even while the LNP slowly realised they were pi55ing in the face of most of the population. Once they (inevitably) had to actually support the changes, what were they going to ask? “Gee Albo, can you explain how you took our hand grenade and threw it back to us?” Or “Can we be on your team on this issue - we don’t like our old stance?”

Yep, would not be surprised if the question came direct from Murdochia, at the very least it was designed as a feeder for their outlets. Imagine an Australian opposition party opening Question Time with what amounts to copy bait for a seriously interested private commercial entity.

Who would knowingly vote for that party?

probably the same bunch who still don’t realise how this guy spent hundreds of millions to manipulate them into believing china was going to build military airbases in WA

Australia NEEDS a healthy Conservative Party built on Menzies’ principles not Murdoch’s.

Conservatism done right provides a healthy level of cynicism against the latest social science fads, supports the people who create value and jobs in the economy, and takes a scientific approach to decision making.

The version we have is regressive rather than cynical, supports the businesses that extract value from the economy, and rejects science.

We need Dutton to fail so that something better emerges.

Australia is running more much immigration than most other country’s
putting pressure on house prices, which will hold inflation up.
will keep wages lower.

In US wages growth and inflation growing.

In Aus have inflation but not wage growth.

AUs politicians not interested in protecting australia for energy and leave us to mercy of international markets, so higher inflation than it should be.

in 2019-20, the Australian Government’s PRRT receipts from all oil and gas production are expected to be only AU $0.8 billion, or 1.97% of LNG export sales.

As Australia becomes the world’s largest exporter of LNG, as compared to Qatar, it is failing to ensure a fair share of government revenues from the exploitation of our nation’s natural resources.

In 2020 in Qatar They are receiving 23.35% of the industry’s export revenues in tax from Gas industry, approx 12.5 Billion
