It advantages Australian winemakers. Wine tends to get manufactured in rural areas Previously it was a straight excise tax like beer, based on alcohol content . The negotiation and introduction of the WET was a nightmare, lobbied to death, the ATO and Customs didn’t like it and it caused all sorts of problems with trading partners.
IIRC, the bottles used for wine tasting somehow somehow escaped the tax previously payable when the WET was introduced.
So bracket creep?
I still like the idea of the universal income. Everyone gets it. Eliminates heap of paperwork and heaps of departments.

Anything creep, the % keeps up with it.
Unless you are in the US, where both prices and tipping % have increased dramatically.
Just FYI, if you advertise with google, you get billed from Ireland and you pay no GST.
(well was the case for me in 2020 or so).

Actually, most of the tax stuff I worked on was bipartisan, but then I didn’t have to do income tax.
All the searches I did showed we were not in the top 20.
In my experience beer is cheaper in an Aussie pub than any place in Europe I have been.
Just because the Bacchus Marsh bowls club has genuine 1970’s prices, doesn’t mean everywhere else does.

I wish that was true. Their beer is the cheapest in Town but not 12c a pot like it was in 1970
Czechia used to be the go to country for Brit beer drinking weekends.
Australia now has the third highest beer tax in the world, behind Norway and Finland.
Your first comment was about the price of beer not tax.
In all my travels we are far from the most expensive.
In any case these small breweries go broke because they make crap beer that most just do not like. Our group actually stopped going to a local restaurant because they only would serve beer from a local craft brewery. We tried hard to drink it, but it was not great, and as they also only served their own wine, we moved on.
Single-handedly done more AND less for this sport than any other participant in the games.
Still is.Stacks of Brits go over for the weekend. My most recent flight from Heathrow to Prague had 2x Bucks parties with attendees in full garb which was quite funny. Very boisterous flight
$1.30 for 500ml of nice beer at the deli or $1.45 for water. Little wonder people wander around drinking beer
