No politically i think it was amazing the Libs got it in.
But its a much more effective way of raising government revenue on property than transaction based taxes which are economically bad.
And “Honest” Johnny finally does not need to kowtow to them any more.

I think they need to do something about the internet.
Facebooks a sewer these days, X/twitter the same, onlyfans is ■■■■■■ up.
I mean 15-20 years ago you wouldnt get a M rated movie on before 8.30 at night.
Now pornhub is 7 digits away on a smartphone.
That is a really ■■■■ policy for people who have bush blocks that are unsuitable for building any housing on due to frequent bushfires. Which will be a growing problem as we move further into the Pyrocene.
But the bean counters in Spring St would not concern themselves with that.
What would you have the bush block for?

ACT charges a revenue tax on property which is not the owner’s principal place of residence. Same as land tax.

quality of kids shows has gone downhill.

Best part of olympics has been it has created a common thing just about everyone has taken interest in and can talk about. E.g the aussie break dancer.
Titmus winning gold or female marathon finish.
I have loved the camaraderie between the athletes. We can be great when we are not trying to tear each other down. The best qualities of humanity have been displayed in Paris.

More that theres no censorship , age restrictions - really no filter on the internet. I mean there was a reason for those things on old school media.
And social media services are made as addictive as possible then spool content which really probably should be consumed in moderation and mindfully.
But are anything but.
I mean at the absolute extreme you have the Christchurch attacks. But post that is the internet any better?

My reading of the regulations, done because I don’t want the vacant bush block next to me sold, is that they would be exempt because a) usually not zoned residential (Green Wedge Zone is not residential), and b) if the block is unsuitable for development due to topography or natural protection it is exempt from the vacancy provisions.
