All those people there were embarrassing for mine.
I donât hold the royals dear, not fussed if we keep them or fob them off. Although I am of the opinion that changing it right now would be a very costly exercise for a small return on why we would do it. There may come a time when it becomes far more meaningful to go through the process. Back when there was a chance Howard ran a brilliant yet ugly process that was doomed to fail because he designed it to fail. We probably should have been a republic back then.
I have no issue with Thorpe holding a position of disliking the royals and what they might stand for for some Indigenous Australians. There is a time and place for making your opinion known. Hold a press conference for example and calmly state your opinion on the issue, she has the right to do that. Make a speech in Parliament, she can do that too. No issues with any of that.
What she did today though was just make herself look like an idiot, ranting and frothing and screaming while being ejected. That is not going to win people over to her side.
It once worked for her to get the profile she has, but it isnât going to keep working, people get tired of a screaming person who starts sounding a little unhinged each time they do it and as they continue to lack any sort of graces and respect in how they speak.
When are they going to fire this disrespectful cow, free speech my arse, what a fking embarrassing disgrace
sheâs an idiot in the same category as the other idiots who super glue themselves to hold up peak hour traffic . but hey , you know how the liberals ,the nats , and the murdoch media always bang on about freedom of speech?, so there is that
How exactly does she get fired?
Sheâs an independent senator. She can be voted out at the next election.
Actually, no, her term is to 2028 - so the election after next. Unless there is a double dissolution.
Put some pressure on and make her resign, thatâs how itâs usually done
That tends to work better when someone is part of a major (or at least sizable) party. She isnât.
Fraser Anning wasnât booted from the senate despite his comments post Christchurch Massacre and attending a neo-Nazi rally in Melbourne. He got voted out at the next election.
I disagree with what she did, but she isnât going to be booted from the senate for it.
As an independent she answers to nobody but herself. If anyoneâs putting âpressure on,â then, it uncomfortably resembles trying to heavy an elected parliamentarian out of their seat, which is (rightfully) the sort of thing that the AFP, among others, should be coming down on like a ton of bricks.
From memory as a sitting Senator, she can only be disqualified for treason , under a charge or conviction for a period of one year or more, or an undischarged bankrupt.
A senate vote then
So you need Dan andrews to call an early senate election?
So you want to get rid of an elected member of parliament because she said something that you either
(a) disagree with
and/or
(b) didnât like the way she said it
Not a big fan of democracy eh?
Yeah I do, how many more times does she get away with acting like a child instead of an elected official with no recourse?
Let me guess you voted for???
try watching 5 min of question time
However many more she wants until she gets booted out by the Victorian electorate, I guess.
Again, I donât condone what she did. I donât agree with what she does a lot of the time. But them the rules.
Then the rules need to be changed and an IQ test wouldnât go astray before entering Parliament either
well the Nationals would be f*cked then.
This is all that needs to be said really.
She sought attention and she got it. Any further analysis is a waste of time.
Exactly right, sheâs an oxygen thief, and any talk about her is a waste of breath.
