Australian Policies -- from October 2024

Nobody is entitled to stay whatever they like without repercussions.

She can think what she likes but needs to be accountable, especially as a Senator.

Guess all you likeā€¦but Iā€™ll give you a hintā€¦it wasnā€™t her!

However, enough people did vote for her that she got electedā€¦and under the system of Government that we have, people like you can only get rid of her at the ballot box.

And thank god for that.

By the wayā€¦are you in favour of Australia becoming a republic or staying as part of the Empire?

Well you sure are wasting a lot of breath!!!

If the rules are changed to a parliamentarian can be kicked out of their seat by whoever holds the majority in parliament, we arenā€™t a democracy any more. Whoever was in government would just systematically expel the opposition one after another. The whole point is that only the electorate can choose who sits in parliament.

And yeah, that mean sometimes you get stuck with Hanson or Joyce or Babet, none of who are worth Thorpeā€™s toenail clippings and i donā€™t even particularly LIKE Thorpe. But any other way of doing things is a fkload worse, and thatā€™s worth remembering no matter what the outrage du jour is.

Pearl clutching over ā€žrespectā€œ included.

If the governor general can boot Gough Whitlam surely she can boot a piece of pond scum like Thorpe

News Flash.

Most of us donā€™t want to live in a world where the Governor General can do such a thing.

I, for one, would prefer an Australia where Governor Generals and Governors no longer existed.

They arenā€™t elected and shouldnā€™t be able to overrule ballot box decisions made by the electorate.

Ye gods. Is there a civics teacher in the house?

The GG sacked Gough from his role as prime minister (with ā€¦ dubious legal grounds). He was absolutely not able to kick Gough from parliament, and neither should he have been able to.

Agree with that completely, but Senators and MPs should not have freedom to say what they want. Maybe a long bow, but consider the repercussions of Trump urging the US Parliament being invaded.

I donā€™t care much for the Royals but until we change our Constitution they should be given some respect.

Maybe im in the minorityā€¦ but good for Thorpe.

She saw an opportunity to express the emotions Indigenous people feel (at least some of them anyway) about the Monarchy, to the Monarchs face.

ā€œHold a press conferenceā€, some people say. Yeah, right, like anyone would care.

Whether she conveyed any particular message is another question entirely, but at least she had some fortitude to show the King what some portion of the population thought of him, and the institution he represents, directly to him.

I could care less that it was a farcical. I think it was quite fitting, actually.

In isolation, I have no problem with any indigenous peoples, anywhere in the world, telling the royals to get ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– .

Thorpe is undone by her prior antics however. Itā€™s more than reasonable to suggest that Thorpe cares primarily about Thorpe, and cares about indigenous affairs insofar as they promote Thorpe.

which is absolutely fair.

Surely they can just throw the stupid ā– ā– ā– ā–  out of parliament?

she did get thrown out

Dutton refers to our British heritage . According to the Census, only 33% of Australians have ancestral ties to the UK.

Strange so many calls to jail and ruin Thorpe for representing the anger in the indigenous community in her fashion, yet every day bints and blockheads from major parties lie directly to their constituents, fail to follow up on election promises and say the most outrageous nonsense while taking outsize pieces of the fat of the land before landing comfy board positions and delightful pensions. If itā€™s just squawking females that get your goat Iā€™d have Leyā€™s or Hansonā€™s head on a plate a thousand years before Thorpeā€™s. Far more damaging to the national fabric.

I see the Monash undergrads are out and about.

Certainly not calling for her to be behind bars, but she should be removed from being a Member of Parliament. Her conduct is disgraceful whether you agree with what she is saying or not. Iā€™d suggest she has mental issues. She needs help.

A lot of politician conduct is disgraceful

Itā€™s very undemocratic to think that you can just remove an elected official because of that though

If it were the case Joyce would have been removed multiple times over
