Imagine spending your whole career as a journalist (or whatever this guy is) and writing about something as petty as a flight upgrade.

I don’t think he set out to make it about the upgrades as such.
He had an axe to grind with Joyce and Qantas and the book was mainly to focus on Qantas using the Chairman’s lounge over the years to garner favours from the government of the time and the protection racket afforded to Qantas. From the bits I’ve read so far there is very little of Albo mentioned at the start of the book and he is focusing his criticism on Joyce and the execs
As I’ve stated numerous times I think there are some mistruths in the book and his judgement is clouded by his bitterness towards Joyce and Goyder

So in regards to the NACC what is the perceived conflict of interest that Brereton had? Was he friends with a person he was investigating ? Or has this not been released ?

Thank you. On my brief reading Brereton knew Referred Person 1 and this created a perceived conflict of interest. I’ll need to read in more detail to ascertain if this Referred Person 1 is named.

The Referred person is Kathryn Campbell Public servant, CEO of Robodebt fame. She is also in the Army Reserve and there are official pics of her in Army rig with Brereton in Army rig. They are known to each other. She would also be known to other Army Reserve MPs ( such as Linda Reynolds)?
After the Robodebt RC, she was moved by Morrison to head up DFAT. With the change in Government she was moved to some Defence job created for her. She later resigned.
All the above is public knowledge.
Seems that Slater and Gordon ( acting for the Robodebt victims) have tangled with Brereton in the past. They forced him to recuse himself as a judge in a tobacco harm case, as he had previously been a barrister for BAT.
