Australian Policies -- from October 2024

Governments can have a big impact, they can work towards rebalancing supply and demand. Currently, they’re just turbocharging demand. Those policies are on them.

He’s also a pretty reasonable candidate for a seat like Macnamara. Has a realistic chance of winning it.

I suspect Josh Burns will hold, but by not giving HTV cards, my guess is the ALP would rather lose the seat to LNP than Greens (which I suspect is something you could confirm or deny).

missed this.

simplify tax returns $1,000 standard deduction

The article says the ‘average earner on $103K’ that seems kind of high, unless they just mean ‘average Joe’.

Average median “full time” earnings is now over $100k in Australia.

He sure sounded like a toffy Pom, not a bloke from Barneyville.

An earlier report I read said that if you get randomly selected for audit you would then need to justify the deduction. So just as much work as before for individuals?

He could be a bit Woke, a former Greens Party member and a former Aus specially designated Ambassador for UN Indigenous and Youth Consultative bodies.
And he ran a NFP Indigenous company, the like of which Shadow Minister Price has labelled corrupt.or delivering the wrong sort of assistance to Indigenous in the Alice ( maybe encouraging breast feeding among Indigenous mothers)

He’s chosen the right apprenticeship as a carpenter. There are stacks of jobs for qualified tradies in the family owned home renovation business.
His sister works in a child care business, another one with family connections. She can’t afford to buy a home because child care wages are low. Her father, as leader of the Opposition, opposed wage increases in that sector.
Peter Dutton was able to buy his first home at 21yo from working in his father’s home reno business.

They’d 110% be on the family trust gravy train.

I’d suggest their ‘jobs’ are purely cosplaying to keep up the charade.

Absolutely they would and good luck to them but as a qualified chippie if he was any good at his job he would be able to generate some decent wealth for himself. I don’t know too many 21-30yo chippies that are on struggletown.

Agree, but just be honest, and don’t put up fake tradies either. Surely they can find someone who makes good copy.

Meanwhile, there are media reports that Dutton wants to axe free TAFE. Wouldn’t that compromise opportunities for qualifications as a tradie or for those seeking to upgrade from Cert III to diploma status in for example the health sector?

Let them keep announcing things like that. If they lose hopefully we’ll never see those policies again.

There’s a (maybe not true) rumour that Labor has a double agent in the office of a certain Shadow Minister originating election campaign ideas of this nature. Fiscal responsibility.
