Australian Policies -- from October 2024

His time will come. Ultimately he will need to sell 3-4 big ideas to win government. That will be the test for the Coalition.

Is anyone else seeing all these posts about coles using bovaer in the meat supply chain as it reduces green house gases (Cow farts less Co2 by approx 50%).

Apparently it has silicon dioxide in it and can potentially cause fertility issues and cancer. Or might just be my conspiracy theory feed.

it’s not subjective . we should be comparing to the alternate the opposition has opposed ever single initiative the government has put forward . where would we be if they didn’t get them through?
the opposition approved the voice until they decided they’d get more political points by opposing it
so yes that added to social cohesion issues , what other issues of social cohesion has Labor added to? I can’t think of anything . the opposition uses social cohesion as a slogan , it has no meaning . they tie it to people who oppose or have alternate views to how Israel is conducting it’s operations in Gaza and Lebanon . ib other words if you don’t fully agree with the Lnp you are somehow causing social cohesion problems , or do you don’t agree with their radical immigration ideals you are also a problem .
this is the way they always operate . if you don’t take their view , you are the problem . just like with marriage equality and religious freedoms .
I say what policy have Labor introduced that has added to or caused cost of living ? remember the tax breaks were also liberal policy, in fact it was their idea, they have either spent too much on cost of living meaaures or not enough. it can’t be both. and both can’t be the cause of the problem .

posts or articles?

what is the telegram telling you today?

And there is your problem.

They should do something about cost of living……. But they should also do something about Inflation.

It’s one or the other…. It can’t be both.

two biggest issues are housing & cost of living, got worse during Albanese but a lot can be blamed on his predecessor - free $$ over covid pushed asset prices up.

  • rich got richer

  • middle australia got squeezed

  • Poor were better off through covid but inflation has put them, in financial distress

  • rental crises / housing affordabiity. Got worse during albo.

  • Over covid when students went home there was a bit of a reprieve in rental market (and air bnb) some switched back to rentals

  • Then post covid migrants flooded back in.

It just seems like they don’t have a plan with migration. Like they haven’t got the infrastructure to sustain current levels and it has pushed australians onto the streets in record numbers.

Cost of living / Inflation cause has mostly been created by Liberals with $$ given through covid and supply chain issues.

However there are levers Labor govt could have pulled.

  • Cheaper electricity /gas - costs have risen under labor and they have no answer in a country that is resource rich this is insane. Note: liberals were bad too.
  • Labor increased the size of government creating more costs and more jobs where its questionable if you are getting any value from it. These governemtn jobs that were created, also stopped australia from getting any interest rate relief due to the new jobs being created.

These stats are from 2022 and liekly worse now

  1. Recent rental housing market trends have likely contributed to ongoing homelessness growth, and to the risk that this will continue into 2023:
  • The period 2020-22 saw a dramatic spike in private market rent inflation across Australia, with renting prices (asking rents) rising at rates unseen since 2008; latest figures (June 2022) show annual private rent inflation running at 1.5 times the rate of general consumer price rises – 9.5% compared with 6.1%.
  • At 2.6%, the marginal expansion of Australia’s social housing stock for the period 2016-2021 markedly lagged both population (5.7%) and household growth (8.2%). Consequently, the proportionate share of social housing has continued to drift downwards.
  1. Australia-wide, housing affordability has been one of the fastest growing causes for homelessness to date; from 4 years ago up until 2021-22, the average monthly number of SHS service users who experience this issue in triggering their need for help has risen by 27%.
  2. he number of people experiencing homelessness has changed drastically across different parts of Australia. While South Australian numbers have remained about the same for 4 years now, there has been a 24% increase in homeless people in Tasmania and a 22% increase in homeless people in Queensland.

that’s ll probably on it bear the mark. but where is the alternative? . we don’t have one . we have finger pointing and slogans , and no costed policy alternative . we have no idea of how much their one an only policy will cost to implement , let alone how much or when it will make any difference . we literally don’t have an opposition party in Australia at the moment . or any ideas to compare to .

I agree! That’s why I said they’re damned if they do, damned if they don’t. It’s a poison chalice but the battling family out in the suburbs on struggle street don’t forgive them for that.

Australia ranking 14th in 2020 in the World Bank’s Worldwide Governance Indicators (2021)as it has a stable parliamentary democracy and the quality of governance in Australia is among the best in the world.

There is one tool in the RBA’s possession that they have available to manage inflation.
And it’s the equivalent of a blunt axe.

Lifting interest rates is putting all the heavy lifting on a small portion of population to lower inflation.

This time round it was put squarely on Millennials, who are in the early stages of their careers, starting families and buying houses.

It’s a brave Government that does an overhaul of our ability to manage inflation.

The system is deeply flawed, and does nothing but line the pockets of banks.

A change in system could change the future prospects of our country, to be a thriving economy…… rather than a burden on people’s uncontrollable debt levels.

One million jobs created under Labor.

“This is the most jobs ever created in a parliamentary term in Australian history.

An estimated 70% of jobs growth since 2022 has been government funded.

And with an aging population, government employment will become even more in the future.

Aging populations need more services…. Thats just the facts.

The areas of greatest need/growth all tend to be Govt funded. Health, Disability, Aged Care etc. No great surprise here.

Also , in regard to the increase in Commonwealth Public Servants, IIRC, the biggest spend was on numbers to process the outstanding Veterans claims. No complaints by the Coalition on that score.
Littleproud is now calling for a cutback in CPS numbers. When so many CPS resources are occupied with matters agriculture. There would be a huge backlash by the agriculture sector if those services - domestic and internationally- were cut.

This is going to end well……

It says a lot about the public perception that public servants are ‘paper shufflers’.

When the majority of people that classify as public servants are people who work in hospitals, police force, ambulance, fire response, schools, military.

Then other areas like Town planning, water boards, cemeteries, roads, parks and gardens, justice & prisons, public transport, the list goes on.

It’s easy to just wack public servants, but they are needed for a functioning society.

You want them to call out the Liberal party even more?

Yes, but what has the government ever done for us apart from schools, hospitals, roads, urban planning, law and order, age care, defence, etc?..!!!

And when the Libs were in govt, they hammered Labor over everything without offering a useful solution.
