Australian Politicking — from Oct 2026

House prices down, fastest downturn in the last 40 years. A solution was asked for, seems to have worked. Will the investor class punish Albo and Co?

Doctoring reports and threatening staff to get a preferred political outcome then using the doctored report to get billions out of the feds as reported by Fairfax - is this corruption in Victoria or nothing to see here ?

Why would they, it’s a great time to invest. They won’t stay down for long so a good chance to build a decent portfolio.
Haven’t seen it dip too much here as I’m looking for a couple of properties for the lad and an investment for my granddaughters future. Hopefully can have several for her by time she reaches 18

Well seeing how first home buyer loans are down 22% for September following also similar drops previous 2 months the new tax law isn’t helping those it would supposedly help.

If first home buyers were squeezed out before the changes shouldn’t there be a glut of first home buyers with deposits waiting to buy

Or the threat of continued interest rate rises have scared them away .

Good luck to those with negative equity who took up the 5% scheme before the tax changes

Intergenerational wealth remember that well I’m guessing the youth have no wealth to invest

I assumed it was somewhat rhetorical, the implication being that Greens will never hold power so will never have to implement it, right? If you’re asking how they would do it hypothetically I’ve got no farking idea, not my area. I imagine they would impose a tax, like they suggest they would, and use the power of government to do so.

Have I redeemed myself?

I asked you if you had a problem with the notion of redistribution of common wealth, addressing the great issue of a tiny percentage of citizens and corporate ‘citizens’ holding inordinate wealth and the majority holding little. I don’t care if you answer or not but if you’re going to ‘lol’ at dodging ■■■■ then fair’s fair.

No one is shocked that the Gov that tore up East/West because it didn’t meet business case requirements, then built North East without caring about a business case at all, has continued to play games for desired outcomes. Or they shouldn’t be. They’ve stunk literally since (even before) elected.

But let’s see if the RC validates that claim.

It’s yet another example of corruption being the culture of this government and why they need to be flushed. The amount of waste and overspend for political gain is unprecedented. Everything they touch is marked by corruption, waste or mismanagement. No wonder Bacchus Fox disappeared, not even he could defend them.

Your point about rising interest rates I think explains the drop in first home buyers. They’d be one of the most impacted segments of the market.

Just had a look at Wilsons policy platforms to get an idea of the alternative.

The usual wishy washy stuff on law and order, reduce ambulance wait times etc that they all waffle about. ( No promise of more jails, which locking up more people will entail, nor any real discussion on crime being largely driven by economic disadvantage).

They ARE going to scrap stamp duty on first homes up to 1 million. But I thought we’ve been told that these sorts of ideas just drive up first home prices?

One good thing, they’ve forced Labor to roll back the land tax grab on properties under $300k .

One thing that did stand out is the core piece of returning the budget to a supposed cash surplus. They’re going to reclaim the alleged 15 billion that the CFMEU pocketed .

  1. the veracity of this figure is literally assumed.
  2. the nature of the make up of this figure is completely unknown
  3. Being able to reclaim it is also pure guess work.

So we start with a 15 billion uncertainty at best, and probably a hole in the costings …

I had to laugh at albo having a crack at the reserve bank about interest rate rises

Its a distraction, to deflect from the media holding him and Jim accountable for their role in continuing the problem.

It’s a global problem

But sure, we’ll blame the government for it.

I’m pretty sure what you’re referring to are allegations at the moment. But as usual, you have your talking points.

And I think Bacchus took a 100year ban relating to the non appointment of Hird.

$5b going to potholes too

Australia is doing worse than almost every other country in the developed world, they should be blamed for it. Inflation was above 3% before this war started.
