Hawhorn Football Club will receive as much as $20 million in federal government funding for their new Dingley facility if Labor is elected on May 18.

The Hawks and Labor frontbenchers Anthony Albanese and Mark Dreyfuss were on hand to make the funding pledge on Wednesday at Hawthorn’s Dingley site, the Kennedy Community Centre.

That’s it, I’m voting liberal.

Thats a waste of $20 million, might buy a few hawthorn votes though.

ā€œas much as 20 millā€ā€¦so that’s an upper limit. ā€œHere’s $20, now go fark yourselves.ā€

How much did the EFC get from the Budget for multi-purpose facilities at Tullamarine?

At least we provide facilities for the Paralympics.

Collingwood got 10 mill or so a few years back for the old Olympic Pool site, and hadn’t spent it in the first year.

That’s like 4 Tasmanias

They got nothing from the budget, Labor has promised $6 million to enhance facilities for disabled athletes

Agree on some, disagree on other bits.

I would get rid of the state governments, probably amalgamate and make slightly larger local government, but add more federal MP (House of Reps) so that each one is representing a smaller area and to try and get more talent into Federal Parliament.

The efficiencies from having a single police force, single fire brigade, single medical system, single school system, single university system, single tax system, single driver’s license, etc. would be phenomenal. And make citizens lives easier. Also the Feds and State wouldn’t be able to blame shift anymore on things like Education, Health and Transport.

The biggest issue would be where the systems are very different. For example, I think Victoria’s workers’ comp and CTP systems are best in the country (New Zealand’s ACC is even better), but the odds that it will be replicated versus the insurance companies getting a cut of premiums is negligible. :frowning:

I would also extend the Federal election cycle to four years, maybe five. Three years is way too short. They almost start campaigning after the last one is done. A four or five year term gives politicians more certainty, and more chance they’ll concentrate on the longer term good rather than getting reelected. At least in the first 2 years of office anyway!

Keeping it at 3 years is just giving the MSM and the polling booth too much power, which actually inhibits long term decision making.

Oh, and I’d try and limit donations and publicly fund elections, so that politicians aren’t reliant on donations to fund elections. That is almost certain corruption. Also put on limits on lobbying, and access to certain jobs after leaving parliament. But I’d probably boost the pension (or return some of it) to compensate for this. And of course, under my model they’ve got 5 years of job security.

Good post Ants

No states, F that.

I’m very happy to get progressive policies not hampered by the rednecks in QLD.

Haha, talking on the ABC about the Daily Telegraph article on Shorten’s mother, Alan Tudge ( Liberal member for Aston) dismissed the article as Murdoch bottom feeding press. Must have gone off script.

Palmer now stating he cured his childs whooping cough with Vitamin C. Undecided on vaccines and autism link.

FFS.

Daily Tele has gifted Shorten an opportunity to slam the Murdoch press with universal support (including from ABolt!), and tell his story in a way that makes him possibly more likeable (lots of labour voters haven’t really warmed to him to date).
Possibly one of the bigger foot-shootings I can recall. Don’t think Rupert will be very happy!

Yep. Rupe got desperate and went too far and it’s backfired big time.

Hopefully this will be the end of this fkers influence and control of Aussie Politics for good.

This could be the moment of the watershed & a very good day for the Country.
