The wingbacks are playing far too defensive.
They aren’t willing to push higher to pressure Japan with the ball, and give an outlet option to the defenders.
Edit: they’re not even wing backs, they’re playing as defensive fullbacks

Yeah there are two holding midfielders but neither is pushing back into the gap. Not that they need to.
It’s abit odd, because one of the defensive midfielders is dropping back to the defensive line when they lose possession
