Ben Rutten - Back to the grindstone (Part 1)

Yeah, nah.

I would say he was. Saad has gone backwards since he went to the Blooos. Hind has the better disposal now, and is more likely to hit up a leading forward. Saad can pass the ball off when required, but is more inclined to go for long bombs.

True. Something has happened with saad. Everything that made him one of the best small defenders in the comp has gone.

Feels like he has just checked out mentally when it comes to teamwork. Now it seems to be all about saad and what The team can do for him. The talent is still there, but the mindset isn’t

From what l see, the Blooos defenders are not a unit, they don’t cover for each other. They are not well organized, more like a rabble.

I’d even say talent wise they are pretty equal.

where hind has surpassed him on this years form anyway is his composure. Saad still has a tendency to run and gun and just blast it long, sometimes thats needed, sometimes more finesse is needed.

as others have said though, he’s getting found out more this year when there’s a lack of help/coverage for him when he goes on his runs.

those line breaking runs are great from both players, but they need help to defend when and if the ball is turned over.

it does however continue the rose coloured vision alot of sports followers have, cos if Saad was still playing for essendon, how many people would be questioning him as much as they are now, now that he plays for someone else, let alone carlton.

Fark Saad

Pfft, Saad is sh^t

Super tactical test against Hawthorn here (almost halftime). Interested to see how he and his coaching team cope with this and brings us back into the game in the second.

Permission granted to give these guys an almighty bake at 3/4 time, time for cuddles is over they need to wake up.

How good was it to see him smile when we got up

A coach that’s actually invested in the team

I liked it when he clapped as Jones(??) was going to take his shot at goal

Yep… bloody brilliant. Absolutely love seeing our coach during the game now… always invested in the game… but measured. There was one shot (I think after Ridley turned over the kick in) and he picked up the phone… seemed angrily… but then put it down and sat back. It is probably not even close to the reality but I think to like that is a sign of a coach fully invested. Wanted to scream something… so is passionate… but then had the maturity to change his mind and focus on the bigger issues… so can see the big picture.

The more I see… the more I like. Fingers crossed we have found our next premiership coach.

And to see him on the ground after the game congratulating the players. It’s like ā€œwe’re in this togetherā€

Saad benefited from McKenna chopping out for him and he would do the same. Then you add in Hooker and Hurley, alongside Redman and Ridley and it was so much easier for him. Now though he is on his own, when he goes for one of his runs no one covers his man and he gets burned. He also does not spend much time supporting the others either, no one expects him to so he doesn’t. If he did that at Essendon Hurls would have a word with him about it.

in fact it was for Stringer - fantastic stuff and shows how excited he was:

clap, umpire signal for a goal and finish with a table drum beat… (shame he missed)

clap and a drum roll

Well, Rutten would be thinking that’s 30 seconds off the clock too.

Bloody hell, wake up umpire!

I couldn’t believe it the timer wasn’t counting down

Jesus imagine we lost because 30 seconds wasn’t taken of the clock

I lost it twice that last quarter.

  • when Guelfi gave away the 50m penalty.
  • when I’m yelling (at the tv) for Stringer to take his 30 seconds. Only to realise the clock wasn’t counting down. ā€œWHAT IS HAPPENING???ā€
