Ben Rutten - Back to the grindstone (Part 2)

Agreed mate. I think we all deserve better but I have no confidence we have the right people in the right positions to turn it around.

I dont think the list is rubbish at all. Thats the problem.
This is the most talent we have had at one point in years.
The game plan is rubbish, the preparation is rubbish.
For me this is a clear management issue.

The Sunday Footy Show analysis on Facebook of our defence is embarrassing and reflective of Rutten. How the hell does this happen in a professional sport.

Worse than embarrassing it is a disgrace

Perhaps you’d like some more words to continue to express your feelings?
A stain, blot, smear, slur, taint, stigma, the mark of Cain, infamy, humiliation, shame, desecration, opprobrium, disfigurement, odium, stench, scandal ………etc etc

A bit more variety in the “this club is farked” posts would do us all good, me thinks.

Should be using the assistants for the strengths the have

Correct, the list has some talent. But to win a final and definitely two, there needs to be further improvement and holes filled.

Why is the list reasonable?

Perhaps the improvement Truck/Gia/Cara have got out of Parish, Laverde, Redman, Zerk, Guelf, Draper, Caldwell?

Perhaps integrating in Durham and Martin from outside the AFL to best 22?

Perhaps turning Peter Wright into a 50+ goal a year key forward after being unable to get a game in a Gold Coast side that was void of talls?

Perhaps retiring experienced players in Bellchambers, Zaha and Hooker to give youth an opportunity?

Perhaps getting games into an 18 yr old in Hobbs, and carrying Jones and to a less degree Perkins to give them exposure?

The list is talented but it’s not ready… and has massive holes to fill.

Name a player with 150+ games who has any level of consistency, and whose name doesn’t rhyme with Ferret?

Then look at another team that’s peaking before anyone thought it would - Collingwood - and their list of 150+ gamers… Pendlebury, Howe, Sidebottom, Adams, Crisp, Elliott, Grundy… with De Goey and Moore on about 130.

You lot have really unrealistic expectations. The team’s not ready. It’s an indictment on the board and Dodoro that it takes them two decades to maybe build a team that can compete, sure… but regardless, that’s not on Rutten.

Josh Jenkins just saying on SEN he was astonished that Essendon conceded 144 marks (thinks it’s close to the highest for the season) to GWS and GWS won the tackle count ………I hope the spotlight on our performance continues and the heat goes right on Rutten

Also the list is not just Dodo’s fault. The fact Rutten came talking blue collar and defensive style yet we recruit nice guy flankers sits just as squarely with Rutten. It’s as if we completely mis read that modern football requires players to win CPs. I think Rutten said we would be a dependable football team. A big fail on all fronts from the fraud Rutten

You’ve contradicted your first sentence with your next two

Are you high? Even if you assume he had say since 2019, we’ve taken Jones, Perkins, Reid, Cox, and Hobbs as top 30 picks

Outside the main draft, it’s been Snelling, Cutler, Wright, Caldwell, Hind, Durham, Kelly

Do you mean Hind, or D’Ambrosio in the MSD? Where are these nice guy flankers? Do you know what a flanker is?

I think this largely reflects on how poor our previous lists have been, more than how much talent this current list has.

There’s also a key distinction between talent, and output. For example, yes Perkins is a great talent. But he’s only a 2nd year player and can’t be expected to deliver consistently on field till probably year 4

Despite the club constantly putting it out as an excuse, we are a young list and it does need time

I also hope it embarrasses Hepp, Merrett, McGrath and anyone else who pretends they’re a leader.

Those 3 couldn’t lead a horse to water!

Add that to Cornes pointing out Merrett letting Greene run straight past him to take a mark inside 50 without even applying any physical pressure to him what so ever or really making an effort to go with him

That’s not good enough for a leader with 150+ games

Rutten must get tough this pre season and set standards in defensive application no more being nice. Any player who dosen’t follow these standards gets punished needs to push the whole team to where the players are puking.

He’s had all year to punish, farken drop them and let them play reserves.

True but he has no choice now

No I am good.
