Ben Rutten - Back to the grindstone (Part 2)

Just watched the presser. He seemed disappointed, not at all angry, just disappointed.

I was hoping he would be angry.

if he does have a noble type out burst, he absolutely cannot apologise.

or he has to hit them with ā€˜im sorry you’re ■■■■’

If it was me, or anyone else on this forum, then you would have heard the after game spray from Melbourne it would have been that forceful. Then we would have gone to that press conference looking very angry, then the first question would have been asked and we would have stated that the performance was utter garbage, totally unacceptable and we let the players know in no uncertain terms that they as senior players should be embarrassed and ashamed. Then we would have declared that no one was safe and that all players are on notice to ship up or find themselves playing in the VFL.

Instead we get a smile and shrug and a repeat of yeah we didn’t play to our game and yeah look we can improve and get back to our game.

Geez I am more angry today lol

like legit this club just needs someone internally to tell the powers that be that they’ve hired ā– ā– ā– ā– , then step back and watch 6 months later when they realised that they have indeed, hired ā– ā– ā– ā– .

This and this. Said something similar regarding Ruttens presser too… he said similar.

Showed that our coaches are just not understanding the game at all. Swans have absolutely, 100% turned into a fast spread, outside team. Their ā€˜inside’ bull in Kennedy is playing a hybrid role from the bench, Parker is being used forward more and more… their game is built on speed and spread and creating space.

If we were looking for a tight ā€˜contest’ style game… no wonder we lost. Sydney CHANGED how they play… bloody disgraceful. Another example of why we are losing… coaches clearly just not in the same league as everyone else.

This again is another example of him being ā€˜disappointed’ at the players not implementing his flawed game plan. Get used to it because he will never change. The pain continues for another few years.

the thing with a spray like that though is some small part of you has to actually believe that it will change something.

Rutten knows it’s the sook players that will ultimately determine whether he has a career.

I haven’t seen the clip but I posted ā€˜live’ about this in the game thread last night. I only saw it once and live… but it was noticeable. Players looked disrespectful and disinterested. Rutten was clearly trying to explain something and not a single one of them was even half listening.

If you are a half decent club… that footage alone should have sent you to the ā€˜typewriter’ to give Rutten notice.

I dont know. To be fair week after week, spray after spray, they lose their effectiveness after a while. Barassi proved that. You have to find multiple ways to make your pont.

Wow, terrible and shows the game plan is dead, utterly dead. Be worse if the Swans had actually kicked straight.

Rutten has overlapped history and culture with position and title.

He has lost respect, he over stepped the boundaries of his role and they see him as a mate ( one of them ) not a coach.

It’s a fine line…

Not one score under 80 after we lived there for the second half of 2021.

I’m struggling to recall a more spectacular defensive collapse

Whilst the focus is rightly on the defensive aspects of the game, it’s not good reading going forward either.

Of the 52 transitions from defence, only 10 actually went inside attacking 50, and of those just 3 resulted in scores. A 6% success rate.

We don’t keep opposition to manageable scores and can’t score ourselves.

Shambles

When is Rutten contracted to? I assume until the end of next year?

Our forward line is a shambles, but to be fair to them it is a patchwork of non-forwards playing forward, other than Wright.

If you had a consistent group of solid forwards it would probably be better. Although again, from previous comments in the media our ability to score once we have it in the F50 is actually very good. This week less so, but generally we do apparently.

We need Jones, we need players like Tippa and Stringer and we need them to be playing together consistently to learn patterns and understand each others games. I think the only constant forward we have had is 2MP, every other player has been changed many times. That makes it very hard.

Mids need to tackle more. D Parish top of list.

End of story.

He has a 3 year contract but there maybe clauses written in, which might mean it can be terminated after 2 if he doesnt reach certain criteria.

For an uncontested team…
They still beat us in clearances, centre clearances, contested possessions and tackles.
Think about that…
That’s from a Sydney team that isn’t great at the contest.

We are a joke of a club.
And are so sub standard.
In every way.

If we get belted over the next two weeks, and show the same lack of care, interest & passion as we did last night, I reckon Truck could be gone at the Bye Round.

I can’t believe I am saying that, but we are looking that bad.

disgusting

its sacking material. beginning of the end
