Best 22 2019 - Round 1

And it’s the bottom 6 that’s wins premiership, not top 6 (apart from Richmond in 2017)

I don’t think we are in the “now”, or at least the “now” isn’t a 2 year period. Alot of good players under 25

Both forward and defence are well balanced. Two talls, 3rd is a mid-sized (Francis and stringer) with 3 quick players

We’ve basically only got to find a ruckman and key defender in the next 2-3 years.
Good position to be in.

Probably a key forward too. Don’t have much faith in McKernan and to a lesser extent Brown to be as consistent as they were this season

Pretty sure the club thinks Stewart is going to fill that role. Exactly the same age as Joe.

GWESSS CENTRE LINE:

STEW-SHEIL-SMITH

MAKE IT HAPPEM WOOOSH

Hooker and Hurley aren’t.

Perhaps Francis is the replacement for one of them.

May @ age 26 would have been lovely.

Perhaps we target a key position prospect with pick 34?

Although a Roughead/Buddy combo would be great, I think you can get away with having one of the two and bolstering other areas.

Yeah but the top end is interesting
Compared to 2017, we had (at the equivalent time, ie the start of the year),
2 x 250 gamers (BJ and Kelly, both played their 300th during the year),
2 x 200 gamer (and Stanton played his 250th in round 2)
1 x 150 gamer (Bird)
Zaha and Hooker played their 150th during the year
Plus Howlett, Hepp, Luey, Bird on 100+

Our list profile changed a heck of a lot from 2017 to 2018.

Meh.

Francis and Zerk-thatcher are good things, just not quite yet. Gleeson is 23 or so. Perhaps we have Hartley or Ambrose back in the best 22 for a little while post Hooker-and-Hurley, until we find a new 3rd pillar.

Plenty of time before that happens though.

I don’t know what your side is, but I don’t fit Guelfi or Begley or Laverde in my 22.

My bottom 6 are

McGrath
Parish
Francis
McKernan
Baguley
Myers

Make no mistake, we have a hell of a good best 22.

“Alot”

That is just ridiculous. Hooker is a key defender, Francis is a 3rd tall.

I was just working off what majority of people had posted, obviously it’s all personal opinion, but that’s who I see as a speculative bottom 6 out of those scenarios.

Saad Hooker McKenna [last line of defence & emergency response]
Gleeson Hurley Francis [the intercept wall]
Zaka Shiel Hepp [endless run]
Stringer Daniher Fantasia [attacking from anywhere]
Tippa Smack Bags [packs, crumbs and pressure]

Belly Myers Merrett [taps for days and blocking space for the superboot]

Parish Smith Langford McGrath [ready to go]

Edit to put McGrath back in!

Hmmmmm…
Can’t find room for McGrath. Clearly we’re strong enough to win the flag in that case!!

Anyone who has Smith on the bench has serious questions about how they rate players.

Or they have specific rotations in mind.

So you start your best performed mid and current BnF winner on the bench? Seriously?
