Best athletes in the AFL

Carlton - N/A

Lol. This whole thread was just an excuse to use this line, wasnt it?

And fair enough too.

You know I did think about Carlton, but really, who is there? Ed Curnow? Judd in his hey day, for sure.

Yeah Curnow or even Everitt if you had to pick somebody… But you don’t have to pick somebody.

Mark Bolton- athlete of all athletes

CYRIL!!!

DENNIS

(Invisible) Javelin : Adam Goodes.

100 metre backward sprint : Marc Murphy

Hop, skip and jump : Any Irish player

Long jump : Too obvious

Diving?thomas

The term 'athlete' covers an awfully large range of physical capabilities. ..

Agree. Delete thread and start new threads with more specific criteria.

Shane Mumford?!?!?!

“I’m an athlete, not a footballer”

Usually it’s code for can’t use the ball, but can run all day.

Depends what you mean by Athlete.

A guy like mumford can ruck all day, but is not very agile.

Stants is one of the best runners in the comp but doesn’t have a great leap.

Majak Daw makes Neagle look like an endurance runner in terms of aerobic capacity.

Best all round athlete in the game imo is Fyfe. He has a bit of everything.

LOL at the carlton reference though.

Connor McKenna is the best athlete at our club. Dude is a freak. Ambrose just has a good tank.

I remember when an athlete was someone what could run, jump, kick, mark and handball. Now we confuse endurance with everything.

That’s like suggesting that Steve Monagetti was the greater athlete than Michael Jordan in the 90’s

The thread is best athlete not best footballer.

Classic athleticism vs skill argument.
Athleticism vs endurance different argument again.

Therefore player with great athleticism isn’t necessarily the most skilful football wise or one with a huge endurance.

Granted the best players would be all the above.
Nat Fayfe atm comes to mind.

I was more talking about speed, power, jump, nimble and endurance make an athlete, not just endurance.

Shane Mumford?!?!?!

To be that big and strong, yet still able to ruck one out, takes a fair bit of athleticism.

I wonder who the best nimble is?

(Invisible) Javelin : Adam Goodes.

100 metre backward sprint : Marc Murphy

Hop, skip and jump : Any Irish player

Long jump : Too obvious

Limbo: Selwood

Blicavs, Buddy and then 5000ft of daylight between the next player which would be someone like Fyfe or Rioli and then Ambrose.
