Blatant cheating by umpires - “having a ‘mare” this century

He is truly bad

He is by far the most volatile decision maker of all umpires…he is not fit to umpire

He was blowing hard fo Collingwood the whole game. I was going to message in here and say that we found his actual team. Then he does that… but I feel like he thought the game is already done and that won’t make any difference.

The police didn’t identify the soccer issue.

Gambling companies have very advanced processes in place to identify anomalies in betting. The gambling companies and the major sporting codes all have agreements in place for the gambling companies to report any suspicious behavior to them and police.

Should have been just a warning, do it again and it’s a free kick.
Did he even instruct the player to return it straight back.

He doesn’t need to instruct the player to hand the ball back. The player should know the rule, from looking at the vision it is clear that Daicos knew the rule and understood that it had been broken.

Yes, but which rule.
Must be time wasting because all you can hear on the audio is the ump saying you must give it back to me.

The rule, as l understand it is, the player with the ball must pass it back directly to the umpire, not pass it to a teammate first, in this case he handed the ball to Daicos first. You can hear the chump say as much.

Tigers have always been good at grappling and shoving the forwards laterally well before the ball arrives to a marking contest.

It’s been ■■■■■■■■ me for years.

Hopefully 2MP lines someone up, and/or he gets some free kicks for being grappled. But I’m not expecting much.

Think they were saying it was a kid in his first game that didn’t give it back directly to the umpire. Seems like the rule needs a clause where by some discretion is allowed, or the umpire uses some common sense. If he the Collingwood player left it on the ground it would have taken longer for the umpire to retrieve the ball.

For a sport where there are so many rules requiring umpiring interpretation this one should be subject to the same I think. I hate the Pies but that was stiff!! Changed the momentum of the game too…oh well!!

So this kid in his first game should be given latitude for not knowing the rules? They must have different interpretations in the magoos then. That’s the only reason he wouldn’t know. Also, fark em. It’s the filth. They were getting ridiculous free kicks and throwing the ball without penalty throughout the game.

There’s a bit of discussion going on that the rule (18.10.2c) requiring the player to give the ball directly to the ump\leave it on the ground only expressly applies to when the ball goes out of bounds (the rule specifically mentions the boundary umpire.) Ball ups and field umpires aren’t mentioned in that rule.

It’s also being argued that the rule that says a player cannot hand the ball to another player (18.13) is in the context of the ball being in play, as it’s mentioned between not being allowed to throw the ball and not running too far without bouncing. If not being allowed to hand the ball to a teammate did apply when the ball was out of play, we’d see a whole lot of reversed free kicks when play stops and a player passes the ball to a teammate who has been awarded a mark\free kick.

About the only justification for paying a free kick in last night’s circumstance would be time wasting, so in that sense the free kick was justified, but the reasoning the ump gave at the time didn’t mention timewasting, he only said that the player wasn’t allowed to give the ball to a teammate.

Free kick was probably there in the spirit if not the letter of the law, but the ump’s justification for it wasn’t supported by the rules.

Of all the chumps Nicholls is the worst, he has to be centre of attention at least once a game, although I was very happy with last nights decision.

Great points there. As much as I was happy with the outcome, if we were on the receiving end of that we would be screaming blue murder. Pretty bizarre free kick, right in front of goal, never heard of it happening before and probably never will again.

Just as bizarre as the “holding the ball” paid 2 or 3 years ago against McGrath when he was standing up, no prior but umpire claimed he didn’t make a genuine attempt. Never seen a player penalised with a holding the ball free whilst standing up again - it’s always a ball up.

Serious question here, would helmets stop some of these dangerous tackle concussions?

Put a helmet on, and players will go harder
