It took him a long while to kick it, far too long.
Meh.
You can prove anything with facts.
It did, but did he have another opportunity to get rid of it?
How many chance does he need and you want?
He had a chance, he took way too long. This appears to be a difficult concept for you to accept and it shouldn’t be. It was a missed free kick.
He certainly hated us. Also no coincidence that West Coast have gone backwards big time and our free kick stats have improved significantly in the past 3 years.
I remember reading a story either here or on BF, about someone ringing up one of the betting companies for a game involving a Vic team against WCE, being played in Perth with Margetts umpiring, and they wanted to bet on which team would win the free kick count. They ended up talking to a supervisor’s supervisor, but ultimately the betting company refused to take the bet.
Marghett’s wife worked for the Eagles.
No conflict of interest there! Nothing to see, move on!
Who was the umpire that hirdy called out on the footy show?
Scott McLaren?
Edit: And he wasn’t wrong.
I was at the game vs St Kilda in 2004 which incited those comments.
He wasn’t wrong. A long time ago now but I recall the fans around me were absolutely livid.
Earpieces eh? Interesting.

They’ve fluffed holding the ball/incorrect disposal again.
Very predictable.
They got a few wrong last night but overall appeared to call it correctly.
Noticeable the players were conscious about the shift to penalise where they don’t attempt to legitimately dispose after a reasonable time when there hasn’t been prior opportunity.
And its a better and more flowing game because of it.
A good few less stoppages
Of course protect the playmaker, the carrier. But reward the tackle when legal except when there’s no chance of an attempt to dispose (ball up still).
Particularly when there’s no attempt to dispose when still possible, however messy and not to advantage inside the circa 2 seconds … the new Curnow ruling.

Also when there was a ball up they seemed to walk in and throw it straight up without the usual lag time and fanfare.
Just need to get rid of the identify-the-ruck rubbish. Ball it up, if more than one goes up from either side, penalty. If two go up from both - play on.
The other one that drives me nuts (not really a time-waster, but anyway) is where a tackler lays a perfect tackle and the ball comes out without being legally disposed ‘knocked out in the tackle’ - and it becomes a pretty much sudden death ‘holding the man’. The tackler shouldn’t be able to hang on indefinitely, but should be able to complete a reasonable tackle before having to let go, where there’s no legal disposal, imo.

Agree. They got far more right than anything l would call wrong, no howlers that l recall.
IIRC the ‘identifying the ruck rule’ came about in part because the rucks were being swamped or blocked. Like everything the AFL’s Rules mob touches the intent hasn’t matched the execution/ delivery.
