I bought a road bike for my son about 12 months ago because he does cycling as sport at high school. They ride crits once a week through summer, plus training sessions.
I got him a (looks like new) Giant aluminum bike (still original tyres and chain) for $800, which I thought was pretty good value. Yeh, it would nice to have a better group-set on it, but being near new it changes perfectly well. The colour, I don’t give a **** if he didn’t like it (as it happens he does)!
He still doesn’t want to do the Boulies with me, because I go too hard apparently.
Yeah, I’ve got a daughter that is gladly accepting of the hand me downs, so it’s not too bad.
I remember as a kid having one bike.
That’s it.
so you’re getting him one of these? Very generous. Love the forks:
Ive been on the hunt for a new road bike…
i know what i would like i know and can afforf it But
i cant get the right colour!
Its all about the colour!
I purchased a merida hardtail for $1000 just to ride with my girlfriend…does the job
Could’ve been this one…
But I think it’s this Talon 3 in burnt orange. Same colour as my wrap around Arnette sunnies from circa ‘93. Will see if I can find them
i purchased this for my GF…
So went mountain biking today at lunch. TIFU
My quick release skewer broke on front wheel of my mountain bike on the downhill.
This has happened before trouble when you have a 20 year old kmart one. luckily I noticed and hopped off and was walking back to the trail head, still a few kms away from the car. But silly me decides if I’m careful can ride and not crash the flatter sections worked ok for about 5 minutes…then must have went over a bump and the front wheel came out and I splatted onto the dirt with my sternum taking most of the impact. left the bike there and walked back, tuned out to be only a bit over a kilometre now but took forever. chest was painful and arm going tingly, was pretty concerned.
limped past all the guys with $5,000 MTB’s
and headed to the doctors, luckily got seen straight away, and no internal injuries…just bruised/cracked ribs, need to get a Xray later.
Loosing wheel while moving has to be one of the worst case scenarios I can think of.
no broken ribs on X-ray doctor confirmed today, only bruised.
still bloody sore though.
6 weeks later went back to recover mountain bike jogged a lap round mountain bike course and bike was gone, oh well.
Think must have had small fracture in ribs as took at least a month before could go off pain killers.
Bugger.
I hope it wasn’t an expensive bike!
nah probably $120, bought 20 years ago from Kmart
Had been reported it was still there 3 weeks ago though.
I’m on the fence on whether to get a entry level brand MTB, been looking at some second hand ones on gum tree.
Any body venturing to Jindabyne for the snowy classic 26th March?
Had great weekend At Jindabyne rode the110km snowy classic ride…
26 minutes to ride this…6 minutes faster then 3 years ago…
Next year il do the 170km
Hope you were going downhill and not up?
Looking for a cheap advice on some pretty basic entry level bikes. I have an old giant fastroad bike that is me everyday go for a fitness ride, I want another one as a spare so when my adult kids visit from interstate I ha e a semi decent ride for them to koi and me
I can get the new model fastroad sl 1 2021 for 1000, about 1600 new, bike exchange or I just found a 2020 giant contend sl2, which is asking 1200 also an entry level road bike. From what I can tell they were about 2k new. So assuming I can get that down to 1000 which is the better option?
Ones a flat bar and the other is a full road-bike as far as I can tell, so it’s a little hard to compare.
The fastroad normally comes with Shimano 105 derailleurs while the contend comes with Tiagra.
105 is better than Tiagra.
The flat bar is probably more universal bike for anyone to ride. The road bike will be a bit zipper to ride around on.
Yeah cool thanks
Probably need to work out what you’ll be using it for. Is it riding down the park or up the shops, will it be 100% on made roads or will there be paths/gravel?
If it’s not specifically for you, are the riders used to drop bars, it’s a bit of a change if not?
And assuming youve checked the frame size will suit
100% have a look at 2nd hand stuff as well. They depreciate like cars, especially mid tier stuff like Giants.
