Blitz Probe Cycling

Had to laugh when I saw a guy riding in one of those the other week.

It's a ■■■■ load of money for a pretty ordinary Jersey.

FWIW I really wanted the March one that I earned, especially because you needed 160km! But not at all for that price. No way.

Lance Armstrong, EPO, ABC now…

Missed it. Hope it’s on iView.

Meanwhile a wiggle box arrived today  loving my new castelli jacket, actually feel prepared for this stupid weather!

Ta, will watch!

Ta, will watch!

Great doco, but it's not calculated to make you feel any better about humanity, just sayin'.

That Kimmidge scene is boss.

That Kimmidge scene is boss.

The press conference?  Yeah, pretty ■■■■■■ up.  You have to wonder if Kimmidge ever hunted up all the other journos in the press conference who laughed obediently as Armstrong blew him off, and kicked them all firmly in the nads.

Thought he held himself really well. Unlike the little lapdogs in Micks pressers

A little something in the works...

CX bike with Disc brakes!

What brand is that frame…?

Doesn't have a brand, China carbon - Flyxii.

Thought so ... hope it holds together!

Been riding nothing but China Carbon/Ti for the last 5+ yrs, funnily enough none of them have disintegrated underneath me.

I buy more of these frames than I do new undies!  :D

Interesting.

How about cheap Chinese wheels? There's a 'tale of caution' that is often repeated here with someone going down 'The Range' (big hill you go out of town on towards Bris) and having their front wheel disintegrate beneath them...

It's predicted 0º on Wednesday with frost, with winds, so the apparent temperature will be much lower. I'm really curious to know how that feels on the pushy.

They need to be used where suitable.

Not a chance in the world I would use ANY carbon clincher on a descent like say Falls Creek which is 40+mins.

On a 3-4min descent they will be fine, obviously rider weight needs to be taken into account as well.

Majority of them have the Basalt surface to help with heat build-up too.

It's quite amusing to see all these China carbon wheels being raced on locally that have just had some stickers slapped on them by a savvy importer/small business. People love bagging them out totally unawares that's what they are riding on.

So the time has come to graduate from the flat bar roadie (Cannondale Quick) to my first 'real' road bike. I'll be commuting on it, with at least 1 longer ride a week. Budget will be around 700-800 bucks and I want to buy a new bike off the shelf, with the notion that if I like the feel of a race style bike I'll upgrade in 18-24 months. I have no real allegiance to a particular brand as yet.

So far I'm thinking:

Reid Osprey Elite - can get a discount on Reid through my work

Malvern Star Oppy 3 - sale on during Le Tour, down to $699

Can you good folks recommend anything else that I should go and have a test ride of?

I'd urge you to save your penny's a little longer and aim for a carbon frame with minimum Shimano 105 groupset or even the latest 'Tiagra'- http://www.cellbikes.com.au/Cell-2014-Akuna-1-1

Why? Well this is generally the way it go's down for new road bike buyers buyers...

You buy an average bike, it has a heavy frame, heavy wheels, crap inefficient tyres, it has an average groupset (gears/drivetrain), the gears jump around and run like crap, you regret your purchase and dont enjoy the ride and the bike now sits in the corner unused, you wish you had saved a little more.

That Cell certainly wont hold you back.

The alternative is to buy a good used bike, if you have a knowledgeable bike mate take them along.
