Bomba Thompson

How fickle is the world

Bomber - the most wanted man in football one week - goes on holiday - rumours spread - now has lepracy...

Maybe bomber now knows what Hird has been going through for the last 3 years. Might bring them closer together if Hird forgives him for his speech..

To be fair, I think Thompson acted based on the indication that he was given from the board at the time. They were on the verge of getting rid of Hird and then made a last minute back flip. The board of the club is to blame for the entire Critchon Medal debacle.

That may be true, how would we know.... However, IF that is the background to his speech, it still doesn't make it right. He could have said how much he enjoyed his year as senior coach, the achievements, how he loves the players etc etc but not declare that he wants to continue in the senior coach role or nothing. Saying that he was going to leave after this season, when he had been interviewed previously saying he was going to stay in a new as yet undefined role, didn't go down well. Then his geeing up the audience to show their support for him was pretty awkward/embarrassing. Don't know if it was his decision to go that way but it certainly didn't win him too many friends.

Bomber can pretty much have any job at EFC that isn't the head coaching job. Pretty much can invent himself a position.

If he doesn't stay it's his choice alone.

You think so?

What if the board took him aside before the count and told him that Hird was gone and that he had to make a speech of Churchill like proportions to stop the night from being completely derailed.

I can't see Bomber intentionally shafting Hird. Look at his disdain for the Crows after the Sanderson sacking. I think the guys got integrity, but I also think he wants to do the right thing by the club.

Perhaps that was his intention.

This is the same guy who spent a whole year heaping pressure on his best player and not talking to him, before quitting his club.

I’m not saying Bomber was doing what some suggest, but he is no paragon of virtue.

Who can begrudge a guy who wants to be a senior coach? or maybe he should pipe down and stick around while Goodwin, Hird and Bassett continue and move into senior positions.

Wherever he ends up, good luck to him. I don't blame him for the speech. What was he meant to say? We don't know what happened behind the scenes, and the board have stuffed every move they have made for 2 years. He might have been offerred the job for all we know.

Our own chairman failed to mention Hirds name even once during his speech. What does that tell you???
Even going as far as to say that we'd sort out Bombers role in the coming days.
Hird was gone that night and by the next day everything got flipped on its head.
Completely disgraceful by our board.

Hird was gone until members piped up and said hell no. They would have lost 20,000 members if Hird went. They need every member possible right now.

We actually have power in all this.

What was he meant to say? How about just talk about the year and how great the club is without trying to apply for a job which may or may not have been offered to him?

Seems odd he'd be upset over Sanderson but happy with the move over Hird.

Its not so much about the words, but it was the location and the timing of the whole thing. Award nights and season launches are to celebrate and tell ourselves how great and wonderful we are, instead we ended up very much divided for the next few days. It wasn't all Bomber but he certainly added a few logs to the fire.

Hird was gone until members piped up and said hell no. They would have lost 20,000 members if Hird went. They need every member possible right now.

Might of had something to do with Bomba too...

I tell you what wasn't Bombers choice.  The obvious rule that the name "Hird" was not to be mentioned.

Then he started to get questions yelled at him from the floor.  Which he was kind enough to answer as honestly as he could.  Now unless those people asking questions were "Sarah" like plants, then all he did was respond off-the-cuff to the question of whether he was hanging around.

In my opinion, he gave a reasonable answer.

People think he was shafting Hird... rubbish.  Equally he could be a driven man that was going to find it hard to swallow the ego and step back into a lesser role, and follow someone elses overall direction for the club.  There is nothing at all wrong with that, and it's a credit to him that he was willing to answer the questions, and respond with some openness.

We should never forget that he stepped up for us this year when we needed him.

(Having stated that, bloody hell I'm glad Hirdy is coach.  But that is because I love Hirdy, not because I have anything against Bomber.  And I can't for the life of me think why people are picking one over the other like it's a choice between vampires and werewolves or whatever that shit movie was about)

From CW today:

A line has been ruled through dual premiership coach Mark Thompson whose erratic performances late in the season were enough to remove him from contention. Thompson's manager Michael Quinlan contacted the Gold Coast in the days leading up to McKenna's sacking to signal Thompson's interest in McKenna's job. Witheriff is understood to have backed away from his original intention to interview the 2014 Essendon coach.

Given these assertions Bomba must be going to the Suns

If Dempsey is traded, could Bomba slot in on a HBF?

If you made it your sole mission day in day out to find implications of possible things happening or not happening at a football club you'd get just as much from the pies or carlton,
Like look at La Bamba's meltdown at the pies that is journalistic tabloid GOLD, if she had anything bar 13 year old fat resentful teenage girl's ability to write she might have been able to spell his name and would be hounding them.
How about all the collingwood greats as coaches and more and more of their players wanting to leave than ours? At least ours tell us beforehand.
Unfortunately while she's the ■■■■■■■ nephew of somebody high up in the age she's going to stay there and be made to feel like her constant lying  is relevant until she chokes and passes out on the constant stream of  bullshit coming out of her mouth on what is, a day to day basis.
We can only hope that day is soon.

and exactly what is this so called erratic behaviour?  I'm generally pretty critical of Bomber, but outside of his speech at the BnF, what has he done that has been erratic?  And again the gullible masses swallow it up and take is as gospel that an issue exists.

And when has he said that he isn't paying the fine?  The invoice he has states due by end of October (from what i recall he said on 360).  I know with most of my bills, i pay them  on the day they're due.  I think I'd do the same if I had one for $30k.

Well If Bomba doesn't really want to coach, and I am sort of convinced you doesnt really want to coach, then why would you pay the AFL any money.  If he has no employment contract with anything AFl, then they would either have to sen din Mick Gatto to collect, or take him to court.

Maybe with Bomba's great sense of irony, is just what he wants.

Also I remember some thread in non-EFC stuff forum maybe mid 2012, WAY before this ever happened, that rumours of an unknown club being tested for HGH and serious stuff were beginning... we all had so much fun with the Collingwood jokes didn't we... what I wouldn't give to go back to then.

That was Fishardsan on BF in November 12. Unfortunately that spurned the HTB Forum  - I mean the hate forum.
