The point is here’s been there 4 years now and if he hasn’t instilled the qualities or passed them onto hird , then again it goes back to the original point , what is the benefit to keeping him around ?
Knowing what to do , and being able to do it are two totally different things .
Ultimately for this short period of time he isn’t the head coach so he can’t make them do anything. It has to come from the head coach .
Again Thompson’s main role was to be a teacher of sorts to hird. His job was to teach hird what is expected of him as coach and to transfer that through hird to the players.
I don’t see how that’s possible going forward, and what there is left to learn ?
Now its about implementing Thompson’s message, and I can’t see how that happens with hird there trying to build his coaching career. ,while Thompson is there now trying to sell his way as the only way, while also wanting his job.
You’ve gotta pit aside what bomber has done at Geelong in the past. As of now he would be some sort of assistant coach, so what assistance does he give to improving hird as a coach ?
Experience is not enough, saying this is what I did at Geelong is not enough.
You have to work with what you have in the here and now, and in the here and now we have Thompson as having stayed he doesn’t know how to get through to this group, I don’t see how that works going forward.

I was saying two things
1) Coaches are always sacked - witness the carnage in this off-season - But Can anyone tell me a coach who has taken legal action after being sacked or even at the threat at being sacked
2) The alleged Hird legal action was because the Federal Court action couldn't continue unless He was still employed by EFC - Otherwise how could the appeal continue.
1) Disingenuous. No other coach is in Hird's situation so the comparison is irrelevant.
2) Hird brought his own case against ASADA's CEO in tandem with the club's. How does him being sacked remove his basic right of appeal? It doesn't. Hence the legal action when the club threatened to do so.

Presumably these coaches are all grown men with egos fully under control and there is a defined hierarchy in terms of roles. If not, agreed it would be a difficult balancing act.
But theres a huge upside for the quality of coaching for the player groups on a day to day basis , over the preseason and season.

DP why aren't you quering Harvey's appointment then? He was an assistant coach for us over 8 seasons when we went from a powerhouse side to a mediocre one - how are you so positive that he can coach & bring something different to the table & BT can't?

Nah it's ok, he'll tell us what he thinks.
I think that Thompson need something different to coaching. Not an ambassador role, but something to do with setting up football structures, furture game plan postulating, recruiting.
Something that will keep him interested for years to come.
